Hi!

I tried installing 10.4.4/5 Universal on my Dell Inspiron 6000d laptop. The install went fine, but when I try to boot into OSX, a crossed circle eventually shows on the "apple" and it stops right there.

I'd like to boot into safe mode to see what's going on, but I don't get a chance to enter '-x' at bootup.

1. How can I get a prompt to enter bootup commands?

2. Any idea of what might be causing this crossed circle to appear?

Thanks!

Well the circle with a line through it indicates a problem that won't let it startup. I got it yesterday when I applied some modified .kext files. I also have an inspiron 6000, but with my install, it worked.

You know the screen you get where you can choose your partition, and it says press any key to start darwin or something? that's where you type in -x.

Hope this helps,

Impulse.

I don't get that screen. It boots straight into OSX (but hangs a little bit later). Is there a key I need to press to get a prompt where I could enter -x?

thanks!

Weird. All installations I have made have had that screen. The version you downloaded might have removed this though (not sure, don't quote me). You might want to try a different install that works better for your computer. If you message me, I'll show you which I used.

You never got it to work right?

Funny enough, I installed osx86 from the same dvd (maxxus patched) on a desktop machine and it worked like a charm. Plus, I got the prompt at the beginning... (but not on this laptop!)

Did you have to do anything special to get osx to work on your dell 6000?

The "No Boot" sign can mean it's trying to boot off the wrong partition. Boot the install CD, go to the Disk Utility and find your HFS+ partition, click Info to determine the number (usually disk0s1 or disk0s2).

When you boot from the hard disk, press F8 when the Darwin boot loader first appears. Then enter

rd=disknSn (where "n" is the disk number and partition number) and see whether that works.
