dell optiplex - success til reboot

hopefully someone has seen this - i am out of ideas :

 

strange issue i have

 

10.4.4 patched DVD installs fine

 

if i fully power the system down, then turn it back on it will not boot back into OSX -

 

if i boot with the dvd in the drive i can re-install and it will work fine - till i power off again?

 

anyone seen or heard of this?

 

it is a dell optiplex w /

 

PROCESSOR, 80546, 2.8, 1M, PENTIUM 4 PRESCOTT DT, 800,

 

i have tried it with hyper-threading on and off to no avail

 

using the ide disk as the sata is not on the HCL (that i know of)

I got the 10.4.5 image - all is working xcept nvidia, but macvida driver fixes that
