teenagemojoworkout
Hi, I need to take out my old wifi card and replace it with an OSX compatible one. The problem is that I'm a noob at these kinds of things, and I don't know where the mini PCI-e slot would be located. My laptop is a Gateway M-6866. I tried contacting Gateway tech support and asking where the slot was located, but they're A-holes and told me "Gateway notebook computers are not upgradeable or modifiable." So I was hoping you guys could help me out with this. I've heard that HP doesn't allow new hardware in their laptops because of the BIOS, is this true for Gateway too? Here's a picture of the bottom of my laptop if that helps at all. Again I'm totally new at installing hardware in a laptop so any help would be appreciated. Tmacfan4321
My guess would be that it would be in compartment "D" or "E" as shown in the picture above. Just try opening those up and seeing if the wifi cards are in there. It shouldn't be that big of an ordeal. Here is a link for removing the NC10 hard drive - it is the same for the wifi card. http://www.laptopmag.com/advice/how-to/nc1...ive.aspx?step=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/142269-how-to-install-a-mini-pci-e-card-on-laptop/#findComment-1009573 Share on other sites
teenagemojoworkout
Hey, thanks for all your responses. I'm hoping its either in 'D' or 'E'. I'm not sure how to remove the keyboard for my laptop, so if it's located in there I'll probably have to pay someone else to do it. UPDATE: For reference to other Gateway Laptop users, if the bottom of your laptop looks like the picture below, your wifi card is located in section 'E'.
