Hi Folk,

this is the 2nd time i´m installing OsX86 on an Asus X51L Series Laptop. We bought it for under 400 Euro.

Intel M560 Celeron CPU (works fine with vanilla kernel) 2,13Ghz

2 GB 557Mhz DDR2 RAM (This is fine, because memory will be shared with the Gfx, and 1GB would be a bit to less)

Intel ICH8 Mobile Chipset

Intel GMA X3100 Mobile

Realtek HDA Soundchip

Atheros 5007EG

RTL8139 Ethernet

Additonal we will use the Netgear WG111v3 Wirless LAN USB.

There is an PCMCIA Controller and a Card Reader Controller(s).

PCMCIA should work, depending on the used cards (tested with a custom network card with some RTL-beatmedown? chip)

Don't expect to get the Memory Card Reader or Atheros 5007 to work, unless u write u-r own device driver.

If you want to have an additonal XP on your machine, consider this before you install OSX, search in this forum for a howto, its simple.

So, best way ist to use Kalyway 10.5.2, other distros i´ve tried didn't work without massive user interaction, fixes and so on...

You can install it right it is, on your prepared harddisk partition.

Make sure that the partion starts under the 1024 cycl. boundary, darwin would't be able to boot if you do wrong.

You'll have to change the install options:

Don't install any gfx driver or network card driver - none - nothing - nope - or youll get in trouble later.

Use the SMBIOSMB (not the netkas)

Install the Intel Memory Kext

Install Time Machine Fix

(if you want deselect frech keyboard fix)

Install PM Bundle

Install PCGenUSBFix

Choose the lang support and additional apps of your choice (i recommend to deselect all of the and your only the lang you want to use)

DON'T select any other option you belive you have to! You don't.

After installation, Leopard will boot, but it can take several minutes in cause of several timout.

I usally wait in that stage about 5 Minutes for Leopard to boot.

If you think your Computer hangs on blue screen, just wait 5 minutes.

If the screen turns black with a lot of funny pixels appearing, just power off, and restart.

Don't bother about this, just restart in THAT case (no other case than THAT described)

You also should use the -v boot option every time on this stage, to see what is happening. yes see and learn.

When Leopard has booted update to 10.5.5 using this topic:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...2&hl=update

After this Leopard shoud boot in upon a minute.

Not working: Card Reader, Line and Mic Jack, Atheros 5007 Wifi

For wireless lan i use the netgear, with RTL8187b driver for Mac.

U can use USB Headset and other USB Audio Equipment (eg, ive a Line in/Line Out USB Audio Box).

It is possible to Fix the Line/Mic problem, but later in an other post here. I think i know how to do, but lets see.

FORGET to get 5007EG Working (has anyone programmed a osx driver???)

Probably it's worth to get on the ricoh card readers working with some tricks, but better someone provides a native driver

(i dont have time to do it on my own, and its cheaper to use external usb solution).

Hopes that helps, if quest'. occuring just post here.

Some additional important notes:

If osx hangs on shutdown after update to 10.5.5, power it off and use -x -v as boot option, boot to leopard and restart.

-x will clean the boot caches.

...and Quartz/GL is not enabled by default. Use OsX86Tools to do this. It works.

Don't do THIS:

Put your Laptop to sleep - it won't wake up. The reinit of the display will fail.

Don't switch between LCD/CRT with the Laptop function keys.

So, in energy saving setting set both profiles (batter and ac) to never shut down the display.

You can do this for harddrives (only).

And don't forget to swap option and command key ;-)

You can try to remove the PCGenUSB ... kext stuff. It produces errors on load anyway.... my usb devices work all without.

If you manage to update to 10.5.6 post your try here pls.

Hello therealfafnir,

thanks for your manual. I have a ASUS X51L (with dual core 2,0 GHz) myself and the installation with Kalyway 10.5.2 worked fine with your selection suggestions.

Now I tried to upgrade to 10.5.5 with the combo upgrade like you suggested. I read that manual carefully. Somehow it worked but not for 100% since after the upgrade

the embedded keyboard and touchpad is not working. Strangely the network card seems working but I am not able to establish a network connection (not matter if dynamic or fixed IP adress).

I have a xp system as well on that machine which is filly working.

Did you upgrade to 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 successfully? If so could you please post another manual?

Thanks and best regards

Mattes
