Steven2k7
I bought this RAID card a week ago; the highpoint rocketRAID 1720. I didnt want to spend too much on it, hence why I got one of the cheaper ones. The problem is Leopard isnt recognizing it. I installed it and plugged in my two seagate 500gb 7200.11 drives in, and set up a RAID0. I booted into windows first (since I had to destroy my previous leopard install because it was on one of the 500gb drives), and windows saw it right away and I had no problems. I installed Leo4All v3 and I downloaded the mac drivers directly from the highpoint mac website and it dosnt show up anywhere on leopard. When I go to about this mac, and click on PCI cards, it says there are no PCI cards detected. newegg, highpoints website, and the box it came in all say its comptable with mac OSX 10.5, so I thought I wouldnt have any major problems getting it to be seen in Leopard. Right now I have a basic leo4all v3 install on a spare drive, I havnt even installed any drivers yet, just to see if I can get the RAID card and the two hard drives to show up. I tried taking them out of the RAID so it would show up as two single drives, but for some reason that just caused them to not even show up in windows. I'm using the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4 motherboard, two Seagate 7200.11 500gb drives for the RAID, an 8800GS video card, 4gb of DDR2 ram, and a Q6600. Any idea why it wont show up or what I need to do? I'm about ready to just send the card back and just do with out a RAID. giffut
Only with OSX 10.4.x "Tiger" you will be able to make this card work. There are no drivers built for Leopard - and never will be. Highpoint started support for OSX 10.5.x with the RocketRaid 23xx series. Steven2k7
Thanks for the reply. That sucks. Would there be any way that i could install tiger onto my computer, then upgrade that to Leopard while still having the RAID support? Steven2k7
Well I cant get Tiger 10.4.8 to see it, so I guess I'm going to give up on it. I bought it over 30 days ago so Newegg wont take it back. I may contact them after christmas though and say I got it as a gift and see if they will let me return it. If not, I'll put it on Ebay. I may try this and see if it will work, or probably just stick to single drives. I just have to figure out what I'm going to do with a 500gb drive besides just use it for Leopard (all of my files, documents, pictures/videos, etc will go on the other drive). giffut
You should be able to get the approbriate drivers from Highpoints Download page. The SIL drivers won´t work, as Highpoint uses different chipsets. Steven2k7
I didnt mean use the SIL drivers for this card, I meant getting rid of this RAID card and trying a new one. I have been using the drivers from high points website. They have specific mac drivers for my very card, but they are not working right. Yesterday I plugged the drive into the RAID card, and set it as a single JBOD drive in the RAID card bios, and it started to boot up while attached to it. It got about half way through loading before it hangs on "still waiting for root devices".
