Been interested in using OS X, specifically Leopard, for some time and it's looking like the easiest thing would be to buy a Mac or an Intel PC! I've used Windows since 3.11 and have only a few play dates with Linux, (longest install 2 weeks), and like most M$ users I am used to the plug and pray of the Windoze OS.

The more I research installing OS X on a PC, the more confused I'm getting. For starters, it seems that most of the installs are geared towards the native Intel processor, as they should be, and nothing's as easy as Windows or recent flavors of Linux regarding hardware compatability.

My goal is a dual boot OS X/Vista machine, leaving my current Vista install alone. I used to run XP fairly lean as I re-formatted routinely, but now that my wife has a user profile on this PC I need to minimize the impact on her. I do have Acronis True Image, so I'll be able to fully back up my current configuration as I know something will go wrong, at least on the first attempt(s).

Current configuration:

Gateway GT5648E (got it cheaper than building my own this Spring)

Vista Home Premium SP1

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+

3 gig ram (PC2-5300)

ECS MCP61P-AM motherboard (nVidia chipset?)

AC'97 ALC888 7.1 Audio

MARVELL 88E8056 10/100 Ethernet

TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H652D (Samsung?)

NVIDIA® GeForce® 6150SE (on MOBO)

320gb Seagate Barracuda 7200 ST3320820AS SATAII

Drive is currently 10 gig recovery, 29 gig unallocated (for OS X or Linux), and 258 gig for Vista.

I have 3 additional drives installed, which I'll probably disconnect for safety - 2 WD WD1600JD 160 gig SATA's (used to run Raid 0 on XP) and 1 WD WD1600JB 160 gig IDE. I've read there's possible issues with Western drives and Mac.

Will be using Kalyway_10.5.2_DVD_Intel_Amd and am foreseeing problems with my SATA, possibly the GeForce and figuring out the "Chain0" thing.

Or...I'm making too much out of this by spending 10+ hours online researching and the whole thing will go off without a hitch  .

Fiddling with iDeneb_v1.3_10.5.5 first, thinking I'll have the best luck with the newest build.

Can get Leo to install, but not boot. System is s-l-o-w with 9.4.0 StageXNU then reboots, perpetual reboot with no kernel selected. I did install the AMD patch. Doesn't appear to find any NForce ATA drives (0 units found).

I don't know whether to keep trying or attempt Kaylway 10.5.2.

I also have Leo4all v4.1.

Good thing for now is that I can still get back to my Vista install.
