Hello all,

I'm interested in starting writing software for the iPhone.. but I don't own a Mac (and buying one really isn't in the cards right now.. I already have all of the hardware I otherwise need, and I can't justify the expense unless I'd make enough $ selling my software on the App store.. which is by no means a given).

My plan is to purchase a new 2.5" hard drive (so I don't need to worry about dual booting/partitioning with Vista.. unless this is something trivial to do?), and install on my laptop - a Dell Inspiron 1520.

I'm wondering if anyone knows if, for my particular hardware setup, the install of OSX 10.5.5 (need this version for iPhone) would be successful.

My hardware:

Dell Inspiron 1520

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2.0 GHz

GPU: nVidia GeForce 8600GT, 256MB

RAM: 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300, 5-5-5-15

Wifi: Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n minicard

Bluetooth: Dell Truemobile 355 Bluetooth + EDR

Monitor: 1280x800 native resolution

DVD burner: TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D

I'd greatly appreciate any assistance. I'm completely new to Macs!

I am new at this too. I think you should first check if your CPU supports SSE3 instruction set (probably it does - all newer machines do). There is a little utility CPU_Z at

Google for videos and tutorials on how to install OS X on PC.
