Coolin93
Well this weekend I got some inspiration to try and get OS X 10.5 Leopard running on my Compaq Presario F572US and boy have I hit a streak of luck! First off I need to thank C_C because without his F7xx Series thread I wouldn't have gotten this far. Anyways lets move on shall we... The DVD I used was Leo4Allv4.1, here's what I have working so far! SATA HDD-Use MeDevil's drivers USB-works by default Sound-I chose the first AzaliaAudio in the installer, and you need to use idlehalt=0 cpus=2 or else the audio stutters Display-I used the latest MacVidia Driver and followed the steps on C_C's thread (Delete/Move Geforce*.kext, NV*.kext. Install MacVidia 1.0.81; don't restart; open terminal; type 'sudo mkdir/NVBackup' type 'sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.bundle /NVBackup' then type 'sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.plugin /NVBackup' restart - open display properties and get 1280x800.) and it worked like a charm! WiFi-I have not been able to get it to work because I'm pretty sure my WLAN is shot, it hasn't worked for a long time in linux or windows and of course now OS X. Touchpad/Keyboard-They work...see down below and I'll explain more. Ethernet MCP51-I can't get it to work with Forcedeth, nForceLan, or any others. It shows its connected and its even sending small amounts of data out but isn't recieving any. When I use the default DHCP settings I get a self-assigned IP, when I do manual its says its connected but it doesn't work. I'm going to buy the Apple USB ethernet adapter lol... Power Managment-I haven't tried the fix on C_C's thread but it doesn't work right now. When the battery is in(which I leave out most of the time for heat issues) it just keeps saying "calculating time". Touchpad/keyboard issue: Well like I said they work buuut it seems the system only wants to boot when I have my USB mouse and keyboard plugged in, once the system is booted I can take them out. Now I maybe wrong on this because I haven't tested it much but I may only need a USB device on the right side like C_C but it appears that I need them on both side and not just any USB device the same keyboard and mouse. Other Junk: The system at first would freeze if I let it sit to idle for to long but by turning off all the sleep settings that fixes that. I'm not sure if both cores are working or not because the System Profiler says I only have one core and I can't tell in the System Monitor if one is off.(I'm noobish at the whole OSx86 scene lol) But I have had Safari(granted no webpages loaded), iCal, Address Book, iTunes, System Prefrences, and iChat all open at once and doing multiple things in them and the computer runs pretty decent. The audio seems to stutter the longer it has been playing, I have been noticing that while I type this because I'm listening to music on the Hackintosh and posting on another computer. The stuttering only happens everyonce in a while and when the song changes. I don't know if this is worth noting but the kernel I chose in the installer was the 9.2.2.0(or something like that) one that was SSE3(and I did the non EFI stuff cause I was confused that EFI was that usb thing you can buy to make retail disks work lol) One last thing I can think of is that I have Windows 6801 installed beside Leo and when I try and boot into the Windows partition it gives me a Boot mgr missing error and I'm not sure if I repair it that 7 will mess up Leopards MBR...so if someone could help me on that one. So I'll leave you with a screenshot attachted below! Feel free to comment, and I'd love any suggestions!!!! EDIT: Ok so I decided I'd give the XNU Voodoo kernel a try and realized I needed EFI so I got Chameleon and installed it and I restarted to see if it worked at the Apple logo comes up and then the screen darkens and I get the "You need to restart your computer" message... I think I probably should have installed the Voodoo kernel after I installed Chameleon and then restarted... Soooo can anyone one tell me how to fix this???? Ok so I have re-installed Leopard with the 9.4.0 EFI Kernel and the EFI Bootloader and I get the same I error I was getting when I installed Chameleon. It gives me the multi-language please restart your computer error, and to my knowledge thats a kernel panic but when I load with -v it doesn't show a kernel panic. My guess is that my computer can't use the EFI stuff because the non-EFI kernel and bootloader worked fine. yopines
Hi, My first post here:... I have a Compaq Presario F500 (F572US) like tens of thousands of others that wanted to get a cheap Compaq last year when they just came out and cost < $500.00 Everything eventually works on it... including Ubuntu 8.10 and prior it just takes lots of hacking and tweaking. Specifications for my Laptop PC are attached (cpuz-post.txt). There are too many threads all over the place and I would like to start a thread which is complete for individual machines. Hopefully, we can get a complete list of instructions for the non-technical user that just wants to follow simple directions and does not want or know how to hack away. "How to install Mac OS X on your Compaq Presario F500 (F572US)" - is the suggested thread name and we can "wiki" it once it is complete, tested, and works for ALL users. Coolin93
Glad to see someone interested in getting these to work! I'll be emailing you sometime soon. Some updates, I had deleted Leopard after getting discouraged by it but then re-installed it after I had forgotten to activate my Windows 7 install within 30 days lol. So it was working the same way as before but then it started randomly crashing until I then used cpus=1 instead of 2 at boot. The system is much more stable and in a way faster and the audio doesn't stutter at all. Plus it seems that if I add -v to that it boots faster and doesn't get stuck as much. Plus my WLAN has started randomly turning on every once and a while(and it works in Leo!). Still no EFI, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong our if EFI is just doomed on this. You still need the USB keyboard and mouse plugged in to boot which sucks cause it defeats the purpose of being a laptop... On my last install I had tried to update the system excluding 10.5.6, and I couldn't figure how to install the new iTunes and Quicktime and am hesitant right now because if I get it wrong it will break it lol...
