P4 2.8ghz ht

512MB of ram

40GB HD

external USB optical

everything installs correctly, but after the installation is done, it will not boot from HD, it gets stuck at 'looking for root device'

ive tried many combinations of bootloader/kernels/smbios etc and cant get it to boot to desktop. anyone out there have a dell similar to this on that has been successfull? any help would be appreciated

ok succes!! this is what i chose on the 'custom'

bootloader = PC efi

decrypter = Apple

smbios = SMBIOS EFI

Kernel = 9.2 Toh

ACPI = stock

VGA = all intel

system = i just checked all the IDE/SATA

network - checked all

ok sound works. network doesnt, and neither qc/ci. i will check around for drivers for that.

Hi, I installed 10.5.4 on a sx280 sometime ago (now long gone since the hdd died and its resting under my desk waiting for another drive :-)), I was able to get QE/CI but the tool bar on top was not transparent but I remember that it reported QE/CI under System Profiler, I was able to change the resolution too. I attached the file I used, give it a try just in case you have the resolution problem (I used 1280x1024x75).

I also found the kext(s) I believed I used for the NIC (Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx gigabit), I have attached them as well, dont remember if I used only the one for the NIC (AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext) or I had to use the other (IONetworkingFamily.kext) too for it to work, You are welcome to give it a try. Let us know how it goes.

Cheers!

btw, this was for the small form factor sx280.

AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext.zip

AppleIntel915G.zip

IONetworkingFamily.kext.zip

thank you for all the kexts!

I installed all of them using kexthelper, this are my results:

i am able to change resolutions and leo detercts my display correctly. I dont think i have qe/ci enabled as i do not see the ripple effect from widgets. oh well

i cannot go online, in the system pref pane it says that im connected but im not really.

also system profiler quits on me when i try to open it.

thank you for all the kexts!

Hi, give this a try for the NIC... use both kexts inside.

BCM57XX_kext.zip

thank you for the other kext, but still no go :censored2:

ive been reading more about the issue and it seems the MAC address is stuck at 00000000000 and if i try to change it, it hands the system...it has to do with the nic these dells use...grrr...ill keep researching....

do you know any solution to the system profiler quiting on me?

thank you for all the kexts!

you need a bit work on those issues

1, for Profiler, you can get the profile patch, get it at usual place

2, to see if your qe/ci is working or not ..easiest way is to install a X86TOOLS and will tell you all

3, if you are not using broadcom network cards, I don't think you can make your internet works by using the above kext

what other issue you guys got
