sleepisizer
Having problems with getting USB devices to mount. First time installing OS X on a non-Apple hardware. Installed on a Dell e1505. Used Kalyway 10.5.2 with the default kernel. Installed Sonotone's Dell Laptop Post-Installer 1.3.1 & then 1.35 (beta) packages. Most everything works (including both cores). USB does not mount, unless I use Sonotone's 1.35 beta and install my Broadcom 440x driver again. If I do that, USB will function fine, including repeated mounting and unmounting USB drives, until I repair permissions or reboot. Once I do that, the only way to get USB mounting again is to reinstall the Broadcom driver. I downloaded and ran Apple USB Prober for 10.5.2. While running (in both the Bus Probe and IORegistry sections) it recognizes when I plug in a USB device, but it doesn't show up mounted in the Finder. I went to the USB Logger section and went to start the log. When I did, it gave me a message that a klog.kext file was missing and needed to be installed. After installing the file, USB devices would mount again. On reboot, nothing mounts again, but still show up in USB Prober when connected. I tried reinstalling the USB systems using the 10.5.2 kext set (iousbfamily308.4) from the Apple developer site, but everything remains the same. What do I try now? Attached logs from USB Probe in case they might help. I'm not sure what to do next. But willing to try pretty much anything (including reinstalling with different options selected if neccessary.) Thanks!!! sleepisizer
Success! You are my new best friend! Went through the steps (all 10) listed in your tutorial and seems to work great. As a test I repaired permissions again and it broke USB mounting, but after a restart it seems to work fine. My problem was the just as the guide said: The kernel and system .kext weren't matching up. Anyway it's solved and I'm happy. Now I just have to get this Intel wireless working... sleepisizer
Quick followup -- will the settings remain intact even after updating? I am downloading Kalyway 10.5.3 update and will probably follow with 10.5.4 after. shahrose786
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109102 Check that thread out, I used it to update 10.5.2 directly to 10.5.5, works well . Make sure to retain the .kext when you do it though. If not please let me know. After multiple hours of use, my USB mounting is still going strong and expect it to stay that way.
