Yes, it is possible. I did the following on my Dell Latitude D600:

 

1) It came pre-loaded with XP Pro on the entire 40G drive

2) Used Partition Magic to resize the XP partition to 20G, and then created a second primary partition with the free space

3) Installed OS X 10.4.4/10.4.5. from the patched bootable dvd on the second partition

4) OS X added the XP partition as part of the boot loader, so when I reboot I can press enter and then select which OS I want to boot into.
