booting problems after installing JaS 10.4.8 Intel SSE2

I had a working 10.4.6, but after learning how to install drivers for my atheros card, I tried to install drivers for my video card and I was no longer able to boot.

 

So I decided to try a new version. I got the JaS 10.4.8 AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1. The last time I installed, I had to dd a disk image.

 

I have a P4 2 GHz with SSE2 only. During the install, I deselected printer drivers, other language support, and added the titan nvidia driver I was thinking of trying again. The install seemed to go great, but when I try to start, it brings goes to a gray screen and says I have to restart my machine. It never boots and it does this every time I try to start it.

 

I'm not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions?

edit: I found a JaS 10.4.6 disc that installs perfectly. Since I only use osx86 to compile/test my software, a real video driver isn't strictly needed, so I'll stave off tempting fate for now.
