Hey guys what's up. I just installed the Kalyway 10.5.2 disc on my PC. I went the Hackintosh route in order to get better performance out of my audio recording gear. At the moment, I use a Presonus FP10 which is an audio/midi recording device and I'll be using this alongside Logic Pro 8 (Logic Studio).

But the thing is, my Hackintosh isn't recognizing this device when I connect it via firewire (which is the only way to connect it by the way). In the Presonus user manual it says that all I need to do is just connect the device and turn it on. The light on the device will be red and then it'll turn blue to signify that it is working.

But this isn't the case. So I downloaded the Mac drivers, tried to run them, and when it scanned my system with my device connected, it said that the device wasn't availble.

Does anyone know a solution to this? I'm really in a crunch for time here and I'm supposed to record a client tomorrow evening. Please help! How do I get my Hackintosh to recognize my Presonus?!?!

Oh and in case you're wondering, here are my system specs:

I also use Intel quad-core, the built-in soundcard from my Presonus FP10, and I'm dual booting with XP on a different drive on the same system.

Thanks!

Hi Rezon8,

I think the solution to your problem is easier than it looks. First go to your system profiler, select "software", there you can check wich kernel version you're using. For ex. mine is 9.2.0 kernel. Then go to your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder ctrl+click the system.kext file and select "show package contents". You will see a info.plist file. Open it with TextEdit and find a string like this:

<key>CFBundleVersion</key>

<string>9.2.0</string>

This will show you wich version of system.kext you're using. It must be compatible to your kernel version. In my case I have 9.2.0 and the system.kext show the same version. If it's not you must replace it with the right version (look around in case you don't know how to do this). Once you do this it should work, USB stuff will mount without having to reboot and probably your Presonus also.

Hope it helps. Good luck.

^ Awesome bro. Earlier today I just went ahead and re-installed OSX on my computer. This time I used the vanilla_92 kernel and all my usb bugs are fixed.

I'll plug in the FP10 in a little bit and see what happens. If the same thing occurs, I'll look at the strategy you presented and troubleshoot accordingly. Thanks again bro.

You might want to make sure you have all devices working and running with Mac OS X 10.5.5 first.. Having the device show up in the firewire section means that Mac OS knows about the thing, but the audio subsystem has no clue what your computer is doing :)

Make sure everything works, then try the firewire device again. If it has audio I/O, it might show up in the Sound preferences in the Systen Preferences.

Otherwise, download the Mac OS X Developer tools (google for that), it has an Audio debugging application which allows you to see what the audio subsystem thinks that it coul do with your firewire device.

Besides that, if you want to know what kernel you have, open the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/) and type:

uname -a

it will display the kernel version. If you are unsure which part that is, paste it in here.

Okay, everything works now! : )

And guess what it was? I ended up re-installing OS X with the vanilla_92 kernel and made my interface as the input and output in the system preferences area. I also enabled it as my audio device in Logic's preference setting.

Man, I hate it when it's something so simple as this, lol

Thanks for all the help guys!
