chris hanson
hello, i have been trying to format my hard drive as a mac os x extended journal, but every attempt in the Disk Utilities comes out a failure. I am using iATKOS v2, JAS, and XxX Leopard 10.5.5 installers, all of which are having the same problems. I'm formatting it as a NTFS (also tried FAT-32) primary drive, but still to no avail. the Disk Utilities shows that it's dismounting the drive, erasing, then it renames my partition to disks04 MS-DOS every time. I've tried partitioning in both XP and Linux, can some one guide me to what i'm doing wrong? thanks. acer 5610z Processor: Intel T2060 Pentium Dual Core Video Card: Intel Integrated Video 950 Chipset: Intel 943ML Memory: 1.5 gb RAM Audio: Integrated HighDef Audio Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/139477-cannot-format-hdd/ Share on other sites

verdant
can a {censored} get a bump? When you go into Disk Utility, go to Partition and Options; choose Master Boot Record (MBR); and select number of volumes to partition HDD into and format intended OS X volume as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)....... Edit: Suggest you use Disk Utility to format intended volume as MS-DOS (FAT) after partitioning as MBR and then erase immediately as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).......sometimes Disk Utility may not do a clean erase......
