Hi Guys - thanks to all the fantastic advice on this forum I've never had to ask for any help with my Hack... until now...

My SATA DVD Burner (Pioneer DVR-215) is the only component still giving me trouble with my install. If I put a disc in the drive and wait for 5-10 minutes after the disc has spun down, then try to access the disc or open the drive tray, the disc icon disappears from the desktop. I then get a system message about the burner being unsupported.

The strange thing is this only happens after the drive has been idle with a disc in it for a few minutes. If I try and read from or write to the drive immediately after a disc has been inserted, it works just fine!

The burner has been updated to the latest firmware, and functions normally under XP or Vista. My Motherboard is an ASUS P5E (ICH9R) with the SATA ports set to AHCI in the Bios. I recently added the ICH9R device ID into the info.plist for AppleAHCIPort.kext, which now shows up correctly in system profiler, but the burner still disappears from the system after a period of inactivity.

If anyone has any useful suggestions I'd be really pleased to hear them. I have a feeling the problem is related to the setup of my motherboard / pre-boot kexts rather than the burner being incompatible, but I'd quite happily swap it out for something that actually works!

Thanks MacUser! Followed your advice, and it seems to have done the trick. I am suprised though, as I thought OS X would only try to put the hard drives to sleep as opposed to sending a generic sleep signal to all SATA drives on the bus. Even more surprised that the DVR-215 won't wake when given the instruction. I'll keep an eye on things!

Thanks again.

Your welcome, you would think so but it happened once with my 212 then I changed that setting thinking what the hell could not hurt and it worked fine since.
