grreeaatt
i got all ready with my leopard disk, my windows disk, my windows key, start the bootcamp assistant, print the document, read the document, press continue and then - "startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored..." and so i thought - darn! i went to disk utility, repaired permissions and started again - same thing i verified the disk and everythink was good, tried again - same thing i have never had partitions on my drive and when i go to partitions of disk utility, there is only one partition. please help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138890-startup-disk-cannot-be-partitioned-and-i-have-never-had-any-partitions/ Share on other sites
Groot Koos
I would presume you are trying to do this on a Hackintosh? If so Bootcamp does NOT work on a Hackintosh! If it's on the Machine you have in your SIG, then it will be an issue of having it in MBR! Groot Koos
MBR stands for Master Boot Record, Why yours is MBR, you should ask the people you got it from! also your SIG says you have a 500GB, but the picture shows less!? You can only resize a Original Apple partition or a GUID partition, without having to reinstall the Original OS, hence Bootcamp having a problem to resize the MBR partitioned drive, SticMAC Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138890-startup-disk-cannot-be-partitioned-and-i-have-never-had-any-partitions/#findComment-984121 Share on other sites
grreeaatt
actually the hdd is 320gb but i forgot to update my sig when i originally got my macbook (from the apple store) it came with 120gb and i used superduper to clone it to a 320gb and then replaced the 120gb with the 320gb. HOW CAN I FIX THIS WITHOUT HAVING TO REFORMAT HDD? IF NOT, HOW DO I GO ABOUT FORMATTING IT FOR BOOTCAMP SUPPORT? Groot Koos
You should backup your data and stuff. then do a complete Mac OS installation, this time when you partition your drive under Drive Utilities, choose under options GUID partition table then format it HFS+ and do an installation. You do not have to split the drive into partitions yet as Bootcamp will do it for you! Once you have MacOS up and running you can run Bootcamp again Sorry but this seems hard but even if you wanted to merely Repartition your drive it has to be GUID! SticMAC If you have an external drive Clone the existing drive to it, then do the install and the ONLY IMPORT the user... or Clone the Drive with Carbon Copy Cloner, boot from it(Alt key) then partition and format it like my first explanation, then Clone it back without formatting Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138890-startup-disk-cannot-be-partitioned-and-i-have-never-had-any-partitions/#findComment-984154 Share on other sites
