Adding Network Glitch

Hi

 

I've been having problems getting my Ethernet working. I may have figured that out, but now I have a different issue.

 

I go to System Preferences and click on Network. I click either "Assist me..." or "+" in the bottom left corner and it does that little multicoloured loading thing forever, and I have to force quit System Preferences. (As I've been writing this post on a different computer, I've been trying it again and again and it now will need force quitting even if I don't click on things sometimes)

 

Any ideas?

PS as a side note, my Ethernet is Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet if you know something about getting it to work, it would be appreciated!
