forgiven
Hi ColinFox! I have an AMD x2 proc and installed leo 10.5.2 and then used Zep's ASU to upgrade to 10.5.5 without any problems. All i had to do was run the ASU and select "modify only" (i believe) then update. Zep's ASU took care of the rest. Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138650-zephyroth-asu-1052-to-1055-possible-want-to-know/#findComment-985549 Share on other sites
Lanceomni
I had good results too going from Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.5. using Zeph's ASU. I would highly recommend backing up your install before you make any major changes. Also like Forgiven mentioned I would check the "Modify Only" box. This will download the updates, patch them and then repackage them but not install them. This is good for a few reasons. 1. Now you have a backup copy of the patched updates that you can burn to disk. 2. You can inspect the packages to make sure they were properly patched before you install (not really necessary). Kernel & System.kext I used Zeph's ASU and borked my install up the first time. The second time around I actually wrote down every step I took in the install and replaced both my kernel & system.kext prior to updating. Since I did so much other {censored} the first time I couldnt really tell you if it was necissarry to do this first. I upgraded to Voodoo's 9.5 kernel and the Vanilla System.kext 9.5 and have had no issues since. Method for backing up There are several methods but I have found that the easiest way is to have a second drive at least equal in size to the one you installed leopard on. (You could also use a second partition). 1. Boot your install disk 2. Start Disk Utility 3. Unmount the partition or drive where you installed leopard 4. Go to FILE/NEW/Disk image from "yourleopardinstall" 5. Select your second drive/partition as the location to save. I selected "Read Only" rather than compress as I am not worried about how much space it takes up. Likewise I figured it would take less time. Now If you bork your system up you can restore it from the DMG you created. Likewise if your in Leopard and you need some files from your backup you can always mount the DMG and pull the files you need. I found it useful if one of the updates overwrites one of your hacked kexts and you lose some functionality.
