Hi. I've been reading lots of things on these forums for a while, just never posted anything. I managed to install Kalyway 10.5.2 on my Acer Aspire One, thanks for all the helpful info guys! Here's my problem: I had XP installed on the whole disk before starting this project, so I used GParted to make a new partion and installed OSX into that. It worked beautifully, except that Disk Utility can't read the partition (it shows up but all options are disabled for it, can't repair or verify or mount). Also, when I try to use Darwin it doesn't boot, I just get the flashing underscore. Same when I set the XP partition with a boot flag, it just sits there. Now I thought my partition might be corrupted, but here's the weird thing: When I boot off a Linux Live DVD (Knoppix in this case) the partitions show up just fine. The NTFS XP partition is mountable, and I can read all the files with zero problems. Here's what I tried:

- repairing with disk utility (can't read partition)

- checking for errors and fixing with GParted (completed successfully, didn't say it found any errors)

- booting of the XP disc and using the repair thing (fixmbr runs and completes successfully but changes nothing, and chkdsk says the partition has one or more unrecoverable errors)

So does anyone know if it's safe to use XP's fixboot command? I don't want to mess up my OSX partition, I've been a happy user for a few days and wouldn't want to start from scratch. Any other suggestions? Help would be greatly appreciated!
