Socke
long ago I played with OS-X86 on a P4 based Shuttle XPC with some success but more on the scientific than the usfull side. When I had to change the mainboard in my desktop PC, I use SuSE Linux for more than 10 years now, I looked up the HCL and found the Asus P5K EPU as a supported Mainboard within my priceframe. I had an Intel DG33TL and could use my 4 Kingston 1GB Dimms and C2Q6600 in it. I searched for graphics cards and found the NVidia 8500 and 8600GT to be supported, too. So I baught the Mainboard and a fanless Club-3D 8500GT and rescued a 120GB S-ATA HD from an external enclusure with a broken USB chip, probably killed by the same power spike which killed my mainboard :-) First I thought about using my OSX 10.5 update DVD but after reading some threads I settled on iDeneb 10.5.5. So after some failures I installed it with bootprompt, SMBUSEnabler, SMBIOS667, ICHX_Dune, ALC883 and Marvel-xxxx-56. Sound on the green plug is internal speaker, volume controll does not work, stereo does. Network is 1GBit/s with the performance I expect between my Desktop and my Macbook. Graphics with all bells and wistles with a Samsung SyncMaster 203B at 1440x1050 autodetected. Geman language pack installed from the Leopard retail DVD. LG Multiformat DVD works with DVD-RAM and burns CD Images, DVD not testet yet. Logitech Marble FX Trackball on PS/2 to USB Adapter works as two button mouse. Wacom Bamboo tablett works as expected. VMWare Fusion 2 with 3d enabled works with Windows XP Pro guest Sleep Mode works Shutdown works but doesn't always turn off, i.E. 5s power button. lspci output: strasse:~ hett$ lspci 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation DRAM Controller (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation PCI Express Root Port (rev 02) 00:1a.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02) 00:1a.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB UHCI Controller #5 (rev 02) 00:1a.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB UHCI Controller #6 (rev 02) 00:1a.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB2 EHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation HD Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation PCI Express Port 1 (rev 02) 00:1c.4 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation PCI Express Port 5 (rev 02) 00:1c.5 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation PCI Express Port 6 (rev 02) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB UHCI Controller #3 (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation USB2 EHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev 92) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation LPC Interface Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 2 port SATA IDE Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation SMBus Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.5 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 2 port SATA IDE Controller (rev 02) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation Unknown device 0421 (rev a1) 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 12) 03:00.0 IDE interface: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88SE6101 single-port PATA133 interface (rev b2) 05:03.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. I created my user account without adminstrative capabilities and couldn't get into single usermode to give root a password. So, back to the iMac, the 20" Samsung is fine but the 24" iMac is better and I need my Linux PC back :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138275-sucess-story-ideneb-1055-on-asus-p5k-epu/ Share on other sites
