I recently switched to completely OSX86 but have recently run into a problem :) I can't burn any CD's or DVD's. I've tried by dragging files to the icon of the disc on the desktop then dragging the disc to the recycling bin and also with Toast. Each attempt ends with a system crash forcing me to hard shutdown. The drive itself is fine, it was used to burn the Kalyway disc I used to install, it reads discs fine, shows up as a blank disc and everything, just as soon as I click burn the entire system crashes :) My system specs are below. The only thing I can think of is it's an IDE drive but I can't see why that would matter.

Any help is appreciated.

Kalyway Leo 10.5.2

- Intel DG33TL Mobo

- Intel Q6700 Quad Core Processor

- 4GB G.Skill 800 Memory

- NVIDIA 8600GTS Video Card

- Sony IDE DVD/RW Drive

- Realtek NIC

- 160 GB Sata HDD

If you're using the JMicron.kext for your IDE... it may be because you have 4Gb of RAM.

Some users have issues with JMicron.kext and 4Gb RAM.... the system will KP.

The reason I think it may be that (provided of course you are using JMicron!) is that your "Mac" will fill the RAM cache when it burns.

Are you using the JMicron.kext?

If you are, try removing a bit of RAM, just to see if that solves it. If it does - then maybe it's time to get a SATA burner.

I am running whatever came in the Kalyway disc. The only thing I have done to change anything is use the fix so my usb drives work. They were only being recognized if they were plugged in at boot. I am currently at work and will have my wife turn the machine on so I can use logmein and check it out.

If that is the problem is there any other fix aside from removing RAM?

Thanks for the response! :withstupid:

To see if you are using the JMicron.kext, open a Terminal and type:

kextstat | grep JMic

If a line comes back with the PID and says JMicron.kext - then you are running it. If the command prompt comes straight back with no result, then you are not using that kext.

Removing a RAM module is only to test to see if you still get a Kernel Panic when you try to burn a disc. If you remove a RAM module, and it burns ok then you can stick the RAM back in and get a SATA burner. Then you can remove JMicron.kext
