Kienja Kenobi
I have collected some questions that I have not figured out myself and have not found any solutions to. 1.How is it possible to cut files in Macintosh? When I press the Command-X command, nothing occurs. Command-C works properly to copy an item, but even when I have owner permissions of the file in question, I am still unable to cut the object. I see the option "cut" in the options bar from within Finder and many other programs, but it is always greyed-out. 2. Is it possible to make the display of files and folders in Finder automatically update? I do not want to have to right click and choose "Sort by name" or "Clean up" every single time I add or delete a file from a folder just do that it looks tidy. 3. How could I change the time it takes for Dock to disappear off the screen and how long it takes dock to reappear onto the screen? 4. Is there a system rescue/Knoppix-like Live CD for Macintosh? 5.What keyboard shortcut does Macintosh use for minimizing windows? I have found all the shortcuts for exiting the program, hiding it in the dock and so forth, but none that are equivalent to minimizing the window. 6.Is there a comprehensive file searcher for Macintosh? The search feature in Finder only searches common files that are not hidden and are not classified as system files. 7. Where is the file com.apple.Finder located? 8. Is it possible to make Macintosh not automatically add "Alias" to the end of a newly created alias (shortcut)? I know it is possible in windows to prevent the automatic creation of "Shortcut" at the end of every newly created shortcut, so I would like to do the same in Macintosh. 9. Where can I find Macintosh`s pre-installed keyboard files? I need to locate the keyboard profile that I am currently using so that I can load is in the Ukelele keyboard editor. 10. Is it possible to make certain programs not appear in Dock even when they are running (Such as Preview and Quicksilver). I have programs that are either always open or almost always open, so having them appear in Dock when they are open just takes up space. 11. By default, once an item in Finder is selected, pressing Enter starts the process of renaming the object. In Windows Explorer, pressing Enter open the selected item. I think this makes surfing in a file manager must faster, so how do I make pressing Enter open the selected object in Finder? 12. How does one open a session of Finder with root permissions? This would be much easier than having to log out, log in as administrator, do I tiny piece of work in Finder, and then log back into my standard account every time I need to do a little bit of administrative work. Is there some Terminal command that opens up a windows of Finder? If such a command exists, I could just stick sudo in front of it and have exactly what I want. 13. In Windows Explorer, selecting one item and then Shift-Clicking on some other item selects all of the items in-between the first and last selected objects. As far as I can see, Shirt-Clicking in Finder does nothing. How do I make Shift-Clicking function as it does in Windows Explorer? 14. Is it possible to make the Dock entry for Finder automatically open a new Finder window every time it is pressed rather than having to right click and choose "New Window" every time? I never use Dock entries to bring to the front of the screen an all ready open window, and I often need multiple windows of Finder, so opening these multiple windows would be much easier if pressing on the Finder icon automatically brought up a new window rather than having to right click and choose new finder each time. If there are all ready explanations for any of my questions in an article somewhere, I would love to know where that article can be found. Many thanks, Kienja Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/138140-post-installation-questions/ Share on other sites
