before you do -v can you type ?video

this will give you a list of what modes your video card can handle.

Also if your motherboard has an onboard VGA driver, then the OS may not be seeing your graphics card and there will be a whole lot of problems.

If there are 2 slots for your monitor unplug it from the video card and plug it into the motherboards slot. You will also need to remove the video card from its slot.

then try -F -v "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32"

or a low resolution from the results you got from ?video

THIS IS ONE SOLUTION. I had the same problem for two days and c4digit said correctly it is a video card problem. However I have resolved it without unplug the video card. Here are my steps to correct the problem

1. You need to identify correctly your video card model e.g. ATI or nVidia model

2. Reinstall your OSX, in my case is iDeneb v 1.3 Leopard 10.5.5. Please note that you need to ERASE your previous installation of OSX on your hardisk to eliminate the restart problem.

3. When you get to the final stage BEFORE you hit INSTALL button, please press CUSTOMIZE and carefully select the right drivers according to your computer hardware specification. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT because I have the same restart problem as I just installed all drivers without selecting drivers carefully. My laptop HP dv9640us has nVidia GeForce 6800m GS and I MUST select NVinjectGO and NVKush ONLY. I THINK THIS IS WHY I HAVE RESOLVED THE RESTART PROBLEM because in the previous installation, I selected NVinject also but this is only for DESKTOP video card. PLEASE REMEMBER IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO SELECT THE RIGHT DRIVER FOR YOUR VIDEO CARD. I also review and select carefully drivers for other hardware parts such as network adapter.

4. Now you can hit the INSTALL button to have a clean installation with CORRECT VIDEO DRIVER and other drivers.

5. And that is all. Hope that help. Now I am testing LAN, wifi and sound. As many other said, we need to search and find drivers for all our computer hardware then problems will be resolved. I hope that I can find all drivers for my HP dv9640us. :)
