- found out some hardware descriptions

- inserted them in the list below

----------------------------------------

Hi folks,

i think it's time for this topic, as i didn't find any appropriate, but i saw some people posting in order to get their

Sony Vaio VGN-FW11x

to work.

To get into this, we have to gather the information around the ingredients of this machine.

i own the "-E" variation of it (FW11E), but in specific all subgroups consist of the same basic hardware, except for amount of RAM and type of disc device.

Technical hardware included:

  • CPU: Intel P8400 @ 2,27GHz
  • Motherboard: Intel PM45 Express Chipset (didn't find exact specifications so far!)
  • RAM: DDR2 SDRAM @800 Speed
  • Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470
  • Display/Resolution: WXGA+ TFT Active Matrix 16.4" / 1600x900
  • WLan: 802.11a/b/g/Draft-N Intel Wireless Link 5100 (don't know if there's any solution for it right now)
  • Ethernet: 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T Marvell Yukon 88E8055 (don't know if there's any solution for it right now)
  • Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio (didn't find exact specifications so far!)

By now, i know there's yet NO SOLUTION for the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 to work properly. But as always: i'm sure time will solve.

To get everything working fine, we have to gather the exact information about the unspecific hardware at first.

  • I would really appreciate, if owners or knowers could distribute these information for us inside this topic to get things solved.
  • Any advices/hints/tips for (even particular) solutions are highly welcome.
  • I'm new to this, but i don't expect there to be any out-of-the-box solutions and i'm fast in terms of comprehension.

i want to reflect any progress regarding this laptop model inside this topic, so thank you for any interest and help!

Yours,

Gekko

Thanks for starting the topic Gekko. I have just acquired a sony vaio fw290xxx, not quite the same specs as yours but somehow similar.

same processor, chipset, memory, audi, wireless card, ethernet,...but with ATI Radeon HD 3650.

After reading many posts here, I amready to dual boot this new machine with vista 64, adn see how far I can go with it. I will report in thew next couple days

cheers,

Teksi

currently these things aren't working:

  • Intel WIFI 5100
  • ATI HD 3470 (there isn't any solution out yet)
  • proper sleep mode

Everything is working fine out-of-the-box using kalyway 10.5.2, especially:

  • Sound works right after installation (Sound out, i think sound in is not, but didn't test)
  • Webcam works right after installation
  • Bootup resolution of 1152x864 using OSx86 Tools that can be found here (CAUTION: USE VERSION 149 NOT THE ACTUAL 150, YOU MIGHT MESS UP THE BOOT HEADER!)
  • Marvell 88E8055 kext i used can be found here.
Note: only AFTER installation of ethernet drivers some things like "time machine" will start working on this machine.
Note 2: Many programs in Mac OS use the graphics devices for proper work. So, you can backup your harddrive using time machine, but you can't start the whole time machin GUI without proper 3470 kext. same goes to keynote, etc.
  • Full support of USB ports.
Note: i even use a Hauppauge WinTV T-Nova stick and with EyeTV it works like a charm: just plugged in, installed eyeTV and everything works!
Note 2: i'm still booting my whole Mac OS from an external USB drive, i will prepare a dual installation on iinternal HD as soon as 3470 and Wifi work.

i'm still unsure if the following is an issue or not: i can't see or activate any battery information when plugging out of power circuit.

So far...greetz,

Hi

I have the FW11ZU and audio, wifi, and ATI HD3550 doesnt' work.

I installed Ideneb 1.3.

Wifi I think it's normal

But for the audio, how do you do ? Have you tick off something at the installation?

Regards

I tried iDeneb v10.5.5 and hadn't any success with it, too.

Using Kalyway v10.5.2 AMDINTEL sound output works out-of-the-box, didn't change any kexts when booting the DVD for initial setup.

I realized that sound keeps coming out of speakers when plugging in a headphone. For me it's a minor issue so far, i'm concentrating getting graphics to work.

Greetz,
