Installation&Performance problem JaS 10.5.4/iDeneb 10.5.5 on Inspiron 9300 (SSE2)

Hi,

I am working on this about a month and I started to go nuts.

I have an Inspiron 9300 (SSE2) and Kalyway 10.5.1 is a perfect install with additional kexts (except DVD drive :)).

I needed to upgrade to 10.5.4 or later. As far as I know I can not upgrade my installation to 10.5.4 as it is a SSE2 system so I tried several clean installs of JaS 10.5.4 & iDeneb 10.5.5. Both installations did not boot no matter which kernel I selected on installation. Always results in "Still waiting for root device error" message.

- Setting "rd" at boot did not change anything.

- Setting platform to X86PC or ACPI both result in kernel panic

As I failed in a clean installation, I tried installing JaS & iDeneb on a working installation of Kalyway 10.5.1. Both installations successfully booted! Although I can work in native resolutions (1920x1200) the QE is not supported. But I can live with that.

The killer problem is; the system is like 10 times slower! The boot time has jumped from 30-35 seconds to at least 2 minutes, the copy between hard-drives drop from 10-15 MB/s to 1 MB/s. The system response times are also very bad. So it is hard to say the system is usable.

But the interesting part is if I boot the system from the installation DVD (JaS or iDeneb) and select the root device as my Leopard installed partition (rd=disk0sX), the system boots much faster and the response times are very good but I can not install my system's required kernel extensions (Wifi & graphics), and it is not practical to always boot from DVD drive.

So I will be glad if you point me some directions on my problem; perhaps a way to install 10.5.4 or 10.5.5 updates to a Kalyway 10.5.1 SSE2 system, or a way to install JaS or iDeneb, or anything.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you...

Ok, I see that I misinterpret some issues with the update.

First I need to update my system with Kalyway 10.5.3 combo update, then use netkas method for further updates and it does not mather if my system is SSE2 or not, right?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for your advice.
