Hi All,

I searched the forums but did not find any solid leads on this so I am posting again. I have an old Compaq Presario 2800 with the following specs:

* Intel 845 MP chipset and P4-M

* Processors Intel P4-M 1.5 Ghz

* ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 Graphics, 32 MB DDR SDRAM video memory.

* 1GB Memory

* 30 GB HDD

I am trying to gather as much information as I can to get Leopard running on this machine.

I have tried the following and failed:

  1. Used Kalway 10.5.2 DVD and with the defaults (sleep kernel) and the install went fine but on the reboot I got the grey screen and petal timer spinning endlessly (it was left overnight and in the morning still had the same screen). Next I tried to customize a bit by selecteing different Kernels and this time i used the vanilla kernel. The install went fine again but when booting for the first time it went into an looping reboot. Everytime I used the -v option it would boot from the DVD istead of the hard drive and I couldn't get anywhere.

  2. I decided to use the iAtkos (10.5.4) DVD and the install with this also went fine. On the first boot I was again greeted with the grey screen with apple logo and the petal timer. I left this running for several hours and that scree didnt go away. On the next reboot I kept hitting F8 but it directly takes me to the grey screen and the timer keeps spinning.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone tried installing Leopard on the same laptop for similar configuration? If yes, which distro did you use and what steps did you folow to get it working?

  2. Is there something major that I am overlooking for this configuration? Should I try a different kernel/install DVD? I have heard of Jas 10.5.5 but not sure if that would be a good choice or not.

Big thanks to all for your willingness to help.
