AsusP5ND2_SLI
I successfully installed 10.5.5 (iDeneb v1.3) using the Nvidia-patched ISO and applying the 9.4 Kernel However, after install, I remove the DVD and boot into OSX but get the "no smoking" sign over the gray apple. Any suggestions? My setup: Asus P5ND2 SLI (non-deluxe) w/ Pentium D 915 IDE hd w/ 3 partitions: * 50gb NTFS (XP Installed) * 50gb (Mac Journaled) * 200gb (NTFS music/media storage) N-Vidia 7300GT 256mb I'm a using USB mouse & keyboard (NOT wireless). I've removed my SATA hd, external USB drive, and all expansion cards (like my sound card) just to limit my variables. spinecraft
i had this problem as well. googled frantically, but all i really learned was that this no smoking sign is called a 'prohibitory sign'. i solved my problem by going into the bios and changing the SATA hard drives to run in acpi mode. also, try booting in -v mode Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/136791-good-install-but-no-smoking-sign-after-boot-why/#findComment-968586 Share on other sites
AsusP5ND2_SLI
i had this problem as well. googled frantically, but all i really learned was that this no smoking sign is called a 'prohibitory sign'. i solved my problem by going into the bios and changing the SATA hard drives to run in acpi mode. also, try booting in -v mode I'm using an IDE hard drive, and I've disconnected my SATA drive and disabled all SATA in the BIOS. I guess I can check for that ACPI setting as well. I didn't see it in there before. I'll also attempt the -v mode. See if that works. Thanks. Any other suggestions in the mean time? pberthet
i found after much testing with iDeneb that it simply hated my ATA drives and preferred me installing it onto a primary SATA partition boot with the -v command so we can get an accurate error message. if it says 'waiting for root device' try installing onto a SATA partition with AHCI turned on for SATA devices should work better after that, ive found since i dont even need it on, but it seems to vary from machine to machine Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/136791-good-install-but-no-smoking-sign-after-boot-why/#findComment-969731 Share on other sites
