ludacrisvp
I am considering installing Leo onto my Toshiba Satellite x205-SLI6 and it has the stupid Intel 4965abgn card. I have a Mac Pro early 08 with the Airport Extreme Card installed as a custom to order option. I don't use the wireless at all on the Mac Pro, I thought I would but it hasn't been used at all. Could I take the AirPort Extreme Card from the Mac Pro and install it into the X205? It looks like the APE is a Mini PCI-E card like the 4965abgn card is that true? or Is there a similar card that I could use in the laptop that is cheaper than $90.00 like the card listed here http://fastmac.com/ncard.php#1 Is the bluetooth hardware for the Mac Pro part of the APE card? if it is then I won't consider doing it as I use my bluetooth in the Mac the lappy already has its own dedicated card for bluetooth. -edit- Am I just better off getting a Dell 1390 or 1490 mini-pci-e card off of ebay? From what I have read it *should* work, but I have only read of the 3965abg card being what it was replacing. I found some of the 1390s on ebay... what is the difference between the 1390 & 1490? ludacrisvp
It looks like that is what I will have to do since the dell 1390 card is seen as a third party wireless card under airport and refuses to turn on... oh well it was only $10, it arrived today and I tried it out... no luck, vista doesnt even like the card. Time to tear apart the Mac Pro when I get home. How can I turn on my real AirPort Extreme 802.11a/b/g/n card? ludacrisvp
I did give that a try, I just grabbed them from the real MacPro and the system still refused to turn on the card. I decided to try the Dell 1390 card again yesterday and I removed pin 20 with my razor blade and put it in and it worked perfectly.
