schnogg
I know that lots of people have the Walmart Toshiba - A205-S5000 satellite. I just picked up a broken one. Its not too bad. I'm dissappointed that the volume knob turned into a digital encoder, rather than an analog adjustment. But it is kind of neat to see it "pop" the volume on bezel. This is not necessarily a step-by-step. It is intended for information, thought you will be able to use this information to get a working system. I tried iDeneb 1.3 10.5.5 but i couldn't get the video going with it. I'm not really sure what I was doing wrong. It has 1.83 Ghz Celeron GL965 GMAx3100 WiFI - Atheros Sound - Realtek ALCXXX with Mic in and Phones out Agere v92 modem setup log for - Toshiba A205-s5000 Note: this setup produced working video, audio, ethernet Kalyway 10.5.1 setup, mbr bootloader, azalia_out restored time machine backup of hamlet only working with external monitor installed Natit.kext screen was distorted on reboot, manually deleted natit.kext restored to external only on reboot set display sleep to 1 minute [might be unnecessary] Downloaded from here: http://x86osx.com/bbs/data/osxtips/gmax3100.pkg.zip installed gmax3100.pkg rebooted with external display disconnected plugged in external display Downloaded Kalyway 10.5.3 comboupdate from teh enternetz installed kalyway 10.5.3 comboupdate and kernel update 9.3 rebooted with update -v booted, no video rebooted with -x to enter safe mode installed gmax3100.pkg again to fix video rebooted, working video all good again copied entire extensions folder to /extdirbackup looks like update replaced system.kext Downloaded and installed 10.5.4 update using netkas method http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3...SXUpd10.5.4.dmg http://netkas.org/?p=50 while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 didn't exist rebooted, working Downloaded and installed 10.5.5 update using netkas method http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3...SXUpd10.5.5.dmg http://netkas.org/?p=50 while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 didn't contain Don't Steal Mac OS X.kext Looks like appleintegratedframebuffer, system, and IPFirewall kexts were modified reboot, stuck in a reboot loop. rebooted with update, blank screen. rebooted with -x, blank screen rebooted with external monitor plugged in, blank screen rebooted with update -x, external monitor plugged in, blue screen, but inoperable rebooted with external monitor unplugged, no flags, working install, WOOT rebooted just to test and it still works. Finally moved AppleIntelGMAX3100* out of the /System/Library/Extensions folder, then it booted with generic graphics. used kext helper to reinstall all of those kexts and bundles. Still have to fix power management battery reading. the battery address in linux is BAT1 instead of BAT0, so i think that something has to be changed there. schnogg
So this is an annoying issue. I'm not sure what the root problem is, or what part of the solution is fixing my problem, but here is the problem: Problem: boots up with either a blue screen or a black screen and is not responsive remotely (ssh) or locally. Don't really know what the issue is. I suspect that it is the video driver, but i have no real evidence. Solution (Bandage): I have already backed up all of my extensions, which is the most important part. I boot to single with -s, rm -Rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelGMAX3100*, reboot. Upon reboot, it loads a generic video driver. Then I use KextHelper to reinstall all 4 files that were removed from the extensions folder. When I reboot, everything is fine. I'm not sure if the cache rebuild is doing the trick or of something is misconfigured with the video driver, but it is a little annoying. Anybody have any tips for this issue? I also don't have the battery being recognized correctly. Are there preferences that I can delete or modify? I suspect that its the battery's address that is causing issues. Bluesharpie
I tried installing it on my a205-s500 last year, but had issues. I was wondering if you figured it out?
