RandomUsr
So, when I use -v and io=0xffffffff I find that the Apple Apic Controller causes the boot process to hang. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with VT, SpeedStep, and xD all turned on although turning them off doesn't seem to help. I have 4 gb of Ram and an Nvidia Geforce 8600 go. Can someone provide insight as to how to correct this? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135936-boot-hanging-on-apic/ Share on other sites
RandomUsr
BUMP, I also suspect that this is due in part to a proprietary bios option that controls/limits the speed of the CPU. This is in addition to the normal Ehanced Speed Step, Dynamic execution on the CPU. Again, I believe this is a BIOS control applied by Dell over heating issues and bad Packaging on th 8600m. Even if that's the case, there should be some type of work a round; one would think. AppleIOAPICInterruptController is the problem here.
