Evening:)

I want to build a hackintosh. I want to be able to dual boot xp and tiger 10.4.8. It is very important that I use 10.4.8 because it is the version that is most compatible with my version of pro tools, and it's what I have already.

What motherboard should I buy?

Here is what I think may be suitable, please tell me otherwise:)

e8400 C2D 3Ghz

Motherboard GA-EP45-DS3R

4GB Ram (Kingston or corsair probably 800mhz)

1x620gb 32mb cache drive (probably Seagate or something similar)

Video card = unsure

I would also appreciate a recommendation on the video card. It would be nice if I would be able to run a game like crysis, but it's not so important. Something mid range would be suitable; compatibility is the most important issue. 2 x DVI output is essential.

I read in quite a few topics that this motherboard is good for 10.5 but I’m not sure about 10.4. (It doesn't say in the wiki)

I'll be using the jas 10.4.8 and tiger 10.4.8 DVD to install.

Many thanks:D:D

Stephen

Note;

I forgot to add that firewire and e-sata are important because my external drives use them. I will also be using a USB mbox2 and edirol ua-25 usb audio devices:)

forget Tiger, your mainboard is one of the best for a retail-leopard installation. So iI mean the mentioned Gigabyte one.

Anyways there should be a working update for ProTools. Tell me if that ain't true.

Hey:)

I have pro tools le 7.0 and I can download a free update to 7.1.1 which supports 10.4.

If i want it to support leopard I must buy 7.4 and i don't have the cash for that right now.

Also, I've been told that pro tools works better under 10.4. But, i could be wrong.

I read the directions on digidesign quite carefully. The only reason I want to run osx86 is because under xp 32bit i cant use more than 2gb for Pro tools. And protools doesn't support 64bit under the version I have. It's a tough situation. :/
