xy16644
Hello All, This is my first ever Apple Mac OS X post! I am still very new to OS X on a PC so please be gentle ;-) I downloaded iDeneb Mac OS X 10.5.5 and burned it to DVD. I currently have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 100 465 laptop with Vista Ultimate 32 bit installed. I used Disk management to shrink my 200GB hard drive so that I could have a 10GB partition for OS X. This all went well. Then I booted off the DVD, used Disk Utility to erase the 10GB partition I have created earlier and installed OS X (using defaults for the install). At the end of the install it said it was successful and I restarted. This is where the problems start. When I select Mac OS X from the boot menu and it starts to boot I get a kernel panic. I read in a guide that it may be that Vistas boot manager could have changed the MBR and that OS X didnt like that so I went through the steps in the guide but this didnt help. The error I get is: BSD Process Name corresponding to current thread kernel_task Mac OS Version: Not yet set Does this have something with me trying to get my laptop to dual boot with Vista? Can anyone shed some light? I'm really not sure where to go from here. The specs of my laptop are: Intel Dual Core 2 Dua 2Ghz 4GB memory 200GB SATA hard drive Nvidia Geforce Go 7600 video card Appreciate ANY help! geiman
I have a toshiba laptop that is similar to yours, and I've had great success with iAtkos 10.5.4. I've tried iDeneb, but it was taking more effort to make work than I wanted to have to do, so I tried iAtkos and it worked flawlessly. Do some research, and find out what patches you need to install from the dvd when you're doing the install; most likely that is why you're getting a kernel panic. Also, you should be able to use EFI to boot, but I'm not completely sure as I haven't looked at the detailed specs of your laptop. The best thing you can do is research until you know everything you can possibly know about installing OS X before you actually do. xy16644
The exact spec of my laptop is at: Toshiba Satellite Pro 100 465 Hardware Specs The basics are: Intel® Centrino® Duo Technology featuring Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7200 200 GB Hard Disk Drive SATA 4200RPM 2,048 (1,024+1,024) MB DDR2 RAM (533 MHz) 17" Toshiba TruBrite® WXGA+ TFT display DVD Super Multi (Double Layer) drive Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network connection and Intel® 945PM Express chipset NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7600 memory : 512 MB memory type : DDR2 Video RAM connected bus : 16x PCI Express I will try iAtkos 10.5.4 again. I'm really quite new to all this so I am fumbling around trying to get this to at least boot post install! When you said: "Do some research, and find out what patches you need to install from the dvd when you're doing the install; most likely that is why you're getting a kernel panic. " Is this when I do a customise and select the options to be installed? How do I find out what I need to select for my hardware? The guides I read said to just do a default install as when you start selecting the various options this is what could cause your install to fail...am confused?
