kosmos5457
For anyone that is interested, I have the following system spec: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz Crucial 2GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz Asus P5KPL-AM Motherboard On-board Sound Asus EN9500GT OC 512MB Graphics Card Maxtor 250GB SATA Hard Disk (not for Mac) Running XP and Ubuntu 8.10 and is disconnected while doing any Mac Stuff. Western Digital IDE 80GB Hard Disk (MACOSX) is installed on this hard disk and is used for Mac OS Only Realtek Ethernet So here's how it goes. I've installed Kalyway 10.5.2. Initially had some problems. One was the Plug'n'Play setting in BIOS needed to be set correctly. That enabled the DVD to boot into the Mac OS Setup. My second problem was the 14MB Nvidia VESA 3.0 in Darwin. As mentioned above, I had a 512MB Graphics Card. In the installation Customisation, I had chosen to install the Vanilla Kernel as that is the Mac Kernel and is meant to be best for Intel Core 2 Duo isn't it? I had also chosen the NVinject-512 patch. Ran into some problems there. I was reading various threads on here and had been some suggestions that the problem could be with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. I tried to delete that when in Single User mode. Found out that the kext did not exist in my installation, so knew it could not be that and one less thing to worry about if it did exist. It did not take me long to realise that it was Nvidia patches causing the problem so I typed /unmount -sw followed by /movevideodrivers in Single User Mode. This got the Operating System working for me then. So earlier on, I had been looking around for the Apple iPhone SDK and would seem I need either 10.5.4 or 10.5.5 (doesn't matter which one as I know I require an update to get this working). Not only that, I had been looking around on here for instructions on how I would go about getting the Nvidia Graphics Card to work. Registers as an Nvidia card with 32MB VRAM in Mac OS. Seems that there are some installation programs around that might get the 9 Series cards working with the latest update. Enough of that stuff. I followed some basic instructions on how to update 10.5.2 to 10.5.5. I downloaded the Pre-Patching program and the Post-Patching program. I ran the Apple Combo Update in between. Did not restart until all three programs had completed their installations. I realised I made a mistake with the Customisation of the update. I went with the NvDarwin Patch 512MB RAM instead of nvkush or nvinject. I installed the Vanilla Kernel with Shutdown fix. Kept old drivers for the Audio and Ethernet as they were working immediately with no problems after the Kalyway installation. Don't think there is anything else at this point worth mentioning in regards to the selections I had made in the customisations. What is happening now? Well it does not boot into the Mac OS. I get the grey screen with the Apple Logo a few moments after it begins to load. Depending on Kernel and other options I select at boot, it will sometimes give me the message of you must restart your computer. The other times, half the screen will go a darker shade of grey and system hangs at that point. I've tried -x for safe mode, -v for verbose, -f to ignore boot file? and -s for single user mode. I thought I could fix what I think is one of the problems in Single User Mode like I did previously. Only that, now, since the update, the Keyboard is not working in that mode so cannot type anything. Not sure it matters or not but I am using a USB Mouse and a PS2 Keyboard. I've loaded the Kalyway DVD to go to Terminal and tried a few things there. I'll be honest here, I've not got a clue what I am doing now. How I'd remove any kexts that might cause problems or even adding some kexts that may be required but do not exist. Some lines of loading script for Single User Mode point to certain lines being a problem. Some are highlighted in yellow such as Failed to load extension com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI. There is a mention somewhere of the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext in the lines of script now. I am guessing that the Official update from Apple has put it there. I should have perhaps tried deleting that before restarting but its too late now. I went into Terminal like it had been suggested I do. Would seem like this is the only option right now. I also repaired permissions for the disk. Not sure what to do next. Thanks to anyone that might be able to help with this. Don't really want to have to load Mac onto the PC over again. I'm sure that this will be suggested would would rather try other options first if its possible that they will work. Sysyphus
Unless someone can come up with a better reply, then it looks like you might need to re-install. Painful, I know, it took 5-6 attempts to get my installation working. As for your nVidia 9500 card, I would suggest not to use the NVINJECT/NVKUSH and use GFX Strings instead, see here: GFX Strings - How To (Aquamac Fourms), but see if you get any other replies.
