HOW-TO: Parallels on existing Dual Boot System

Hey Guys, first of all i'm very pleased that ive found a forum like this one. Solved nearly all my problem when setting up a hackintosh. so thank you all !

 

After i experienced some problems when integrating my Vista partition in Parallels & solved them with hours of searching i decide to write this small tutorial so that people who wanna set up a parallels system have it easier

 

Tutorial:

 

Attention! Parallels is not compatible with 64 bit Versions (x64)

 

1. Download Parallels & mount the image.

 

2. Install Parallels on your Mac Partition. (no explanation needed)

 

3. Klick on Parallels Desktop.

 

Now it should automatically detect your Windows Partition ! Select it and confirm Stick to point 5.

If not see below. (4a,b,c)

4a. Create a new virtual machine.

 

4b. Select the correct Windows Version & amount of RAM it uses.

 

4c. Select Boot Camp & finish ne create process.

 

Now you should have a link to the vm on your desktop !

 

5. Open the .pvs file with a text Editor & search for "hdd 0:0 Boot Camp" & add after it your Windows partition so that it looks like this: "hdd 0:0 Boot Camp;diskxsy" (replace xy & with your correct partition/HDD example: disk0s1) & save the file.

 

6. Now you're ready to run the {censored} Enjoy it !

 

(After first launch vista will install a lot of drivers, if there comes a dialog box just klick ok/"install driver anyway" System will reboot after that & you've finished )

 

 

Known Issues:

 

For AMD Users: use the search function ( i dont have the link atm sry)

 

When booting up the vm shows "invalid operating system": this happens when you have another bootloader than the vista or Mac one Go to Vista, download EasyBCD & write a new Vista bootloader (you have to add Mac Osx as Generic x86 pc if it doesn't exist)

or

you have the selected the Wrong OS type.

 

When booting up the vm shows "no bootable media":you have selected the wrong partition/hdd

 

 

 

If i forgot anything important to mention or make any mistakes, i would be very pleased if you post it
