stevemar
hello all i have tried to find answers to my question to no avail so i am posing it here. please let me know if this is the wrong location. I currently have a raid 5 running XP on a NTFS partition. I want to install leopard on a second partition. My understanding is that leopard requires the file system FAT32. Also, that darwin bootloader, or other bootloaders, will only be able to duel boot to both osx and xp when XP is installed onto a FAT32 file system. My question is: Is there any way for me to create a duel boot XP/OSX system on my computer, without needing to wipe my currently configured XP partition? My reasons for this is that my current XP configuration has taken a lot of customizing to suit my needs and i want to keep it as is. Your help is much appreciated =D Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135107-keep-existing-ntfs-partition-installing-to-new-fat32-partition/ Share on other sites
tranceporter
hi stevemar, first of all Os X filesystem is hfs+. there is no need at all to make any harm for your existing xp partition in order to make a dual boot with os x here is what you need to do: if you are using your xp partition quite enough time (like 2-3 month with extensive installations and uninstallations of various soft, dvd images etc.) then run defragmentation. install in xp any software for managing partitions in xp (like Paragon Hard Disk Manager or anything you like) then shorten your ntfs partition for suitable size and don't do anything with free space in this software. in command prompt run "Diskpart", select your drive (use ? for help), create partition with id=af (e.g. "create partition primary id=af") now you have partition with hfs+. then start installing leo4all or whatever you want, use diskutility to format your new partition with Journaled option.
