iCF-74 ToughMac
Hi there .. I've been mining info out of this site since I started my Hackintosh project a month ago, and this group has been an amazing boost in my learning curve - for which I am most thankful! To make a long story short, Kalyway seems to work best out of the box than any other ISO's I've found. IOW's I install, and most everything works that I'd like from the start, with only the ethernet (Yukon2) needing the usual editing to be recognized. The only thing I miss with any install, of course, is the 4965 wifi . I was pretty excited when iDENEB came out with V1.3, after I got a vague impression here that folks finding luck with Kalyway were also enjoying success with it. Unfortunately as happens with various installs I've tried I'm met with a particular blend of blue screen after my 'successful' install. Every time I get a 'blue screen', it's invariably this: A blue screen with a 2" vertical black band on the right side of the screen and a cream coloured horizontal stripe a few inches up from the bottom of the screen. Every time - wierd. So being new to a lot of this, regardless of any geeky tendencies I might possess, I'm looking for some general guidance to getting past this blue screen. Can someone take me through their thought process when it comes to troubleshooting this aspect of post installation woes? In general: * What do you immediately consider the usual suspects? * What resources do you refer to in an effort to identify the problem - ie: do you access logs? If so when, and how? * If you add patches after install to fix things, can you provide a roadmap for doing so - ie:getting patches from DVD? to install , correcting permissions etc etc I guess rather than running myopically towards one particular solution after another that I might find here in the forums, I'm looking to put together a small thread that outlines the 'how to' in regards to pulling back, and playing detective for oneself. - Teaching one to fish, versus handing them a fish Being fairly new to spending time hunched over the Terminal, I've yet to spend, perhaps, the hours needed in front of a primer which takes me from A to Z towards a broad understanding of not just 'do A if B happens', but a holistic understanding of the whole mac/unix Terminal thang. Kernel? Kexts? Permissions? I get some of it naturally, but where does one look when they want to finally pull back to see the forest? /rambling off Thanks in advance for any resources, thoughts, or advice you can provide to push me towards the bigger picture.
