Hi,

I've got iATKOS 4i running very well on a Dell Precision 690 Dual Quad X5355. In fact, it seems almost perfect.

That "almost" part is where I need some help, of course. (BTW, it is running off a dedicated external USB drive).

I have an ethernet cable plugged in to a DSL modem, but I see a message "ethernet cable (en0) not plugged in" in my Network settings. I would really like to get that working. It seems so close!

Also, I would like to get my monitor (a Dell LCD with native res of 1920x1200) up to something higher than 1024x728 if possible .

Unfortunately, 1024x728 is the only setting I see available right now, and that's where I'm stuck.

Any help on either of these topics is greatly appreciated! I've researched this whole process quite a lot, so feel free to get as technical as you'd like.

Thanks in advance!

to change resolution, try to edit com.apple.boot.plist using as sample my attachment here

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...rt=#entry931815

with this you get only res changed, for QI/CE digg on forum and find the right injector for your card (if any)

for lan the same, get your device id and look for drivers.

What graphics card do you have installed?

I know that there is a way to force the graphics mode at boot. It's either in the boot.plist file or you type graphics mode=1920x1200 at startup. I'm sure that someone can clarify this for you or a quick search might help.

Just found this (from Nimpi)

You can change it in screensettings

if you dont can change it there you can add

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1440x900x32</string> "change too the resolution you want"

in your com.apple.Boot.plist

write it under the <key>Boot Graphics</key>

<string>Yes</string>

Thanks for the additional info, Ardman. I've got an nVidia Quadro FX 3450 SDI with 256MB.

After editing the com.apple.boot.plist file, and setting it at 1920x1200x32, the resolution has gone up to 1280x1024. This is definitely an improvement from 1024x728. Since I'm using this Mac install for development work, this should be pretty good for now.

But if anyone has some more ideas for getting to 1920x1200 with this card, I'm all ears. Finding the right kext? Getting the max use from this great monitor would be fantastic.

One side note, I tried a setting at 1440x900x32, and this had the effect of bumping it back down to 1024x728.

Now, on to messing with some kext to try and get ethernet working (oh yeah, and sound, too...)

"it seems almost perfect"

...well, that's something I definitely can't believe I said.

"Far from perfect" would have been far more accurate.

I couldn't afford the time it was taking to try and get this right, so I'm now waiting for my shiny new MacBook Pro 17". Much more fun!

For the Internet, you need to install a certain ASUS driver and IONetworkingFamily.kext (NOT THE ONE FROM THE EXTENSIONS FOLDER). Pm me and ill give you details on how to do it. If anyone else is lost, im open to anyone who needs help.
