cbalt123
come on anyone got a solution to this? I reinstalled and can boot into 32bit mode but not 64bit and have to use a usb since it wont let me use my trackpad. Also it wont boot into 1920x1200 natively like 10.5.7 would let me. I am using Iatkos s3 v2 which is 10.6.3 for anyone wondering. TheOriginalPol
Well I don't know how similar your install method is to how mine was (myHack via USB with Chameleon 2), but there is a small checklist I can give to you, it's certainly worth a shot. BTW I'm doing this from memory so forgive me if a few details are off. For graphics, double check your boot.plist, more specifically that it says "GraphicsEnabler" with value "yes" and "PCIRoot" with value "0". That's what did it for me. For the trackpad, plug in your USB mouse so that you can download the VoodooPS2 package from this link and install NOT in "/System/Library/Extensions", but in "/Extra/Extensions". Don't forget to repair permissions and cache on both. Also, ensure that you delete ApplePS2.kext from /Sys/Lib/Ext, otherwise it won't make a bit of difference. As far as 64-bit booting goes, it's hard to say... you should try throwing some speedstep kexts in /Extra/, either disablers or enablers. Also, you're welcome to a copy of my *very* modified DSDT.aml (which if nothing else, will fix sleep for ya!). Here it is. Good luck I hope this helps! CameronB
I am now sitting at the food carts with Snow Leopard 10.6.4 on my new P-7811FX hackintosh So, yes! I successfully installed it. Also, I am running the 64 bit kernel from the Snow Leopard DVD retail, and found a wireless card that works with it: TrendNet TEW-644UB works perfectly. You have to download the MAC driver from their website but it works fine with snow leopard. Make sure you DO NOT PLUG IN THE CARD while loading the driver. They were serious about that and I had to install the driver twice. I will post instructions on what I did soonish. They will be general, but should highlight the big issues (which was mainly finding the right kexts for booting the retail DVD. I have not yet figured out the audio. That's next on my list. BIG BIG thanks to whoever provided that DSDT.aml file earlier. Lots and lots of love from me to you. -Cameron B Portland, OR Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/132929-gateway-p-7811fx-laptop-anyone-successfully-intalled-it-on-this-laptop/page/2/#findComment-1560901 Share on other sites
CameronB
Ok, so thanks to TheOriginalPol for posting the DSDT.aml. I tried to get SleepEnabler to work with my 10.6.4 version, but ended up screwing the whole thing up. I honestly spent the last 3 days ripping my hair out. I had it working perfectly with 10.6.4 except for sleep, then when I tried to put in SleepEnabler, I would get this weird situation where the computer would only partially boot (with -v). It would just randomly stop booting in weird places. Sometimes after loading the USB driver I would get some wierd initialization error, sometimes after doing mbinit -- it would just stall. Sometimes after locating the boot drive it would just stall.. and then I'd reboot and it would stop in a completely different place. It was very strange. I was using my own USB key with retail snow leopard copied onto it, and my own chameleon installation... And what would end up happening is that I would try to boot off the USB key and it would work one or two times and then the same thing would happen to it.. it would just partially boot. Great, now my USB key is fracked. Anyway, it was very bizarre. I couldn't get my P-7811 back to 10.6.4, and that was a real source of anger for me... since I had already done it once... So I tried MyHack. Same deal -- I would get it to boot into 10.6.0 just fine, but after apply the combo update and running the MyHack installer, it would just stall at random places during boot. I tried COUNTLESS combinations of Kexts, lack of kexts, kext research, different kext versions... nothing I tried would get the damn thing to boot 10.6.4 by itself. Sometimes I could use the USB key to boot 10.6.4 ONCE from the hard disk, but after that the USB key would be corrupted and it would no longer even boot the USB key and I'd have to re-install myHack or chameleon onto it. So then I tried #####, and I was STILL unable to load 10.6.4 and have it act stable... (I define stable as being able to reboot the computer multiple times without problems and have it load the operating system). It was very aggravating. So, I thought... hmm, maybe I am just being too stingy with this 10.6.4 stuff... so, I decided to just use 10.6.2... bingo... With very little effort (using #####) I was able to load 10.6.0. Ok no big deal, I could do that any number of ways without a problem. So then I applied the 10.6.2 combo update and reinstalled #####... Ok, was able to boot. Great. So then I tried installing VoodooHDA with #####... eek, KP... forgot to remove AppleHDA from S/L/E.... kind of surprised that ##### didn't do it for me.... Once I removed AppleHDA, and re-cached and repaired using #####, I was able to boot fine into 10.6.2. Yay, working sound. Installed my TEW-644UB wireless card. Yay. Internet. Yay, touchpad support. Yay, internal mic, oh wait that's not working. Screw it. So, you know, I dunno. My brain is just broken from the last 3 days of trying to get this to work, so I'm not really articulating myself very well... but it just seemed to me like 10.6.4 really really doesn't like to be messed with. It always seemed to start giving me problems the second I messed with any kext in S/L/E. Once I did that, even after rebuilding caches (or repairing permissions/rebuilding, or rebuilding then repairing permissions, or any number of combinations that I tried), it would just start to NOT boot. Like somehow 10.6.4 knew that I was messing with S/L/E and wanted to give me the finger... Even if I boot into safe mode and removed the kext, rebuild/repaired... no boot.. randomly at random places. And what's really frustrating is that I know its not something too mysterious -- because I am running 10.6.4 on my tower Core i7 w/ Asus P6T motherboard and never experienced any symptoms like this before. I can mix and match kexts and the worst that happens is I have to boot into safe mode and swap em out and rebuild/repair.... but for some reason on this P-7811 it just DOES NOT like that.... yet 10.6.2 runs fine, and I can swap kexts fine... *takes a valium* Okay, well -- I just wanted to get my thoughts out about this. I know if I had seen a post like this it may have helped me feel less crazy. Basically, if you are having trouble with 10.6.4 on this laptop -- then just consider settling for 10.6.2. Otherwise, please let me know WTF you did. -Cameron Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/132929-gateway-p-7811fx-laptop-anyone-successfully-intalled-it-on-this-laptop/page/2/#findComment-1564247 Share on other sites
iMpathetic
Any updates on this? I would love to do this and am prepared to buy a wifi card, but I need to know what to do, considering the replies to this thread are from three different years! Do I start with 10.6.3 iAtkos? Is the video method still the same? Thanks! TheOriginalPol
I would try the myHack method, but it's been about a year since ive messed with my system, so that may be an outdated suggestion... iMpathetic
I would try the myHack method, but it's been about a year since ive messed with my system, so that may be an outdated suggestion... Awesome, that looks actually doable! If I can get this to work, I'm not gonna get rid of my laptop! Woo! iMpathetic
Awesome, that looks actually doable! If I can get this to work, I'm not gonna get rid of my laptop! Woo! All right, so I found an iATKOS 5i disc lying around and tried my luck. Installed, wouldn't boot without -x due to "VGA family not in agreement" or something like that. Was able to get 1920x1200 by typing it at boot. No wifi, no Ethernet, no sound, no scrolling trackpad. Installed NVInstaller .54 and got 1920x1200 but no QE/CI. I read about someone using AquaMac's installer package first, so I tried that and then installed NVInstaller again. It didn't work. Had to remove NVInject.kext in single user mode. Still no QE/CI and I know it's possible -- any advice? SUCCESS! Found an old HP dv9000 which I gutted and found a Broadcom 4311 card which works natively as AirPort. To fix the trackpad, I installed VoodooPS2.prefPane. I guess I was supposed to remove ApplePS2 first, because I don't have a trackpad anymore. It says "unexpected return from ApplePS2Controller.kext" when I boot with -v and is confused about what I have. Voodoo thinks I have a Synaptics pad (true) while ApplePS2 thinks I have an ALPS (not). Have to plug in a USB mouse when I get home and troubleshoot-- was I supposed to use one while installing? Anyway, all I want is two finger scrolling and perhaps a way to get the fans to stop running all the time... although a previous poster said not to install Speedstep unless I liked crashes. That might explain it! Oh, and QE/CI. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Should I even bother to put SL on it? TheOriginalPol
The short answer (and the long one) to that question is yes. Frankly, iAtkos v5 is very outdated, and SL in the long run works wayyy better on our system. Nice find on the wireless chip. As for video/trackpad, have you taken a look at this thread's sister thread? Don't have the link to it at the moment, but I think it's called something like "help installing leopard on gateway p-7805u". Take a look there, if you READ enough you will be able to find the complete solution. Speaking of reading, take a look at my post up above (#27), where I address both graphics and trackpad issues! It's a good idea to always have a way to edit your mac's filesystem, whether it's from another Mac or Linux or windows with macdrive installed (fantastic program btw). That way you can go back and delete kexts like ApplePS2, even when your system is unusable. Cheers... I've read this thread 9000 times and I thought that post you made was for Snow only. I am gonna do SL but I figured I might as well try 10.5.5 out because I was being impatient...
