DHL
I am running Tiger on MPB, can get an original installation DVD of Leopard, that came with a MB pre-installed. Is it possible to install the system on a MBP from this DVD, or is it somehow locked to the computer, it was purchase with? Will it ask for serial numbers etc.? Sorry for the dummy question but I don't know the way verification works in case of OS X. AreYouAMac
Yes you can. I bought a 2.2GHz macbook and used the pre-installed Leopard Install DVD on my 2.16Ghz macbook to compare the speed difference, and it worked. You don't need a serial number. DHL
Really? I have found information that it will not work. Have you tried only on macbooks, or do you have information about MBPs also? AreYouAMac
Well from my own personal experience, it has worked. A couple of times at that. It should work since it is just an operating system that you are installing, since it has no serial.... unlike PC's where they are only locked to that certain notebook brand & model. DHL
Have asked Apple about this issue — the OS is really locked, but to the product line, e.g. you can install from the same disc on different macbooks, but it won't run on macbook pro. An other question: does the retail version require a serial number or some sort of an activation code?
