Cannot boot into HD installation

I've tried JaS and iDeneb, both have the same problem. I can run through the installation fine from DVD, then it asks me to restart. I restart, and it enters a continuous reboot loop, switching off as soon as it displays "Starting Darwin/X86". I've tried -s, -f, -x, -v, cpus=1, changing boot order in the BIOS, everything I could find on the forum. Nothing gets it past this point.

I'm using an ASRock-4CoreDual-SATA board with Intel Q6600 CPU (supports SSE3). The computer also has Vista, XP and Ubuntu installed (all working), booting from grub. Modifying grub to include OS X just seems to point it to Darwin and the same problem.

Perhaps there is an incompatibility, or an install option or kernel patch I'm missing? Any ideas?

In case anybody comes across this with the same problem - I fixed this by reverting to an older BIOS version (the oldest available from the ASRock site).

And if that doesn't work, I hope you have more luck getting a response than I have!
