dukaat
Hi everybody, I got tiger-flat-image (10.4.1) on a IBM R52 with no lan and no wireless recognized. But it can see firewire with a MAC-address. I read on internet that you can do "tcp/ip over firewire". Then you should be able to connect to internet using the firewire port? Anybody tried this? And with what kind of cable? What is the pin layout? This could be an option for a lot of people with Broadcom 5717 ports on their laptops. Thanks, Tom. alan smithee
I am guessing from the questions in your post (specifically: And with what kind of cable? What is the pin layout?) you are thinking you can connect an ethernet cable to a firewire port for internet access. I do not think this is possible, but I do think you can share internet access between 2 pcs over firewire (and the cable being whatever combination of 4pin and 6pin firewire ends you need to connect the 2 pcs). That being said, im not terribly sure how to do this in osX and I don't know if any additional software is required. Personally, I have a laptop running 10.4.5 with a 4pin firewire connector and a desktop with XP and a 6pin firewire. I happen to have a 4pin to 6pin cable, and I could probably connect them and bridge the ethernet connection (or just assign IPs) on the desktop with the firewire connection and this might enable internet access on the laptop. I havent actually tried this yet, but it seems like it should work.
