I just installed VMWare and was wondering the same thing...I don't *think* it'd have to be a real disc, simply because in the days of PearPC it wrote to a file that acted as the HD...just a thought, I could be wrong. Enlighten me people lol. Also, in VMWare, what type of OS do you tell it you're installing? I just chose "other" for now, don't know if it'll work though...

Anyway, if anyone finds this thread, I got it to go by booting a Linux CD, creating a partition, setting the type to 'af'. At that point Installer still wouldn't see it but Disk Utility did. I was able to partition the virtual disk with Disk Utility.

 

The whole thing is dog slow on a Sempron64 @ 2 GHz...
