I have tried a few different methods to get OSX working properly on this machine, but none of them have been 100% successful. Hopefully I'm not the only one trying and we can collaborate to make this happen.

First, I tried 10.4.3 with almost zero success. I got a kernel panic no matter which kernel I tried. This might have been due to an old release, or a bad burn... I have no idea. I was given the DVD and thought I would try it out.

Once I tried it, I had to make it work. I got the 10.4.4/5 release (thx again maxxuss) from bittorrent and it booted up immediately. Sound works, keyboard, touchpad, even the function keys. Fn-Volume actually pops up the apple volume indicator. Every thing is great... except for the video resolution. I've installed it as 10.4.4 and upgraded to 10.4.5 and both of them are preset to 1024x768x32. I can change the com.appl.Boot.plist file to allow for 1280x1024x32@60, however that is still not the native resolution for the latop's monitor. If I try the proper 1600x1200x24@60 (or any other variant of 1600x1200), It simply uses 1280x1024. So far, the best solution I've found is to use an external keybd/mouse/monitor most of the time and just deal with the black border when I need to be portable.

Other than video, I have only been able to find one real problem. After about 30 minutes of idle time, the computer simply freezes. It will act the same way when testing a screensaver, so I believe it is related. I am currently trying to find a workaround for this and will post when I know more.

Here's the system config, even though all the important bits should be the same for all M50 laptops:

1st Gen Pentium-M 1.2/1.8 Ghz processor

BIOS version A12

1GB RAM

nVidia Quadro4 700GL - 64MB

15.4" UltraSharp 1600x1200 display

Crystal 4205 Audio

20GB main HD

40GB secondary HD

DVD/CDR/CDRW combo drive

Logitech MX 3000 wireless keybd/mouse (both work great)

If anyone else has experience making this release work on this or similar hardware, please post here.

Thanks! :(
