hey guys..

so i was trying to install Pro Tools 7.3 LE to record my band, however, pro tools required me to update my operating system to 10.5.4. I didn't think twice about installing the update via apple's system updater. I think it was already downloaded, because it just went straight to the installing process.

At about 22%, it told me to restart my system.. so i did. After booting back up, it gave me this error :

so now everytime i try to restart my system it gives me the same error..not sure what is going on.

for the record i had kalyway 10.5.2 installed before the update with everything working more or less flawlessly.

can anyone help me out here? let me know my options etc..

my main concern is backing up my itunes library xml file.. since i have over 100gigs of music on my external harddrive. it will take me forever to put album art and make sure all the tags are correct without that xml file.

please help me :(

You hosed your install. If you haven't done a retail install (which you haven't) you can't use the software update for major system updates. You can use it for updates to iTunes, iPhoto etc.

You may still be able to get files off your hard drive... Can you boot into single user mode?

i booted with the -v verbose tags and this is where it stopped...

also -s and -f doesn't do anything :(

so i guess at this point, what would be my best bet for backing up my files ? for some reason i didn't do a time machine backup.. so thats out of the question grrr

Well guys and gals,

I just spent 90 minutes looking through the forums for a post like this one... I don't have an excuse for updating, I just like to update things, and I've broke my mums hackintosh not knowing that it shouldn't be able to take 10.5.4 natively... anyway having not found this post, I wrote my own: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=122648

I have some timing issues and some bandwidth issues that prevent me from downloading anything that will give me the ability to reformat a new install of OSx86, so if anyone has any ideas about recovery then can they have a look at my post?
