mattewilliams
Has anybody had problems with OSX86 with their DVCam. I tried connecting several DVCAMs to the firewireport but OSX86 does not see them at all. The firewire connection works because if I attached an external drive using the firewire port, the drive is seen. I just purchased a Canon HV30 and that is not seen at all by OSX86. I also tried connecting an older JVC Camcorder and a friend's Samsung Camcorder that is not seen by the OS. When I connect those DVCams in my Windows laptop computer, they are all seen. I have a badaxe2 motherboard with OSX86 10.5.4 installed. cacon
The cam is listed properly under: About this Mac > More info ... ? Because for the cam to work properly you have to start the correct program to use it (imovie for example) since just plugging it won't do anything. You have to use the proper application and then download the video from the camcorder. In windows will automatically pop up a message saying it detected the cam and what would you want to do with it, on OSX this doesn't happen, again you have to use any program that can download video from a firewire camcorder. mattewilliams
Actually, I tried that with iMovie and the message I get is "No Camera Connected, To import video, please connect a camera". Also tried with Final Cut with the same result. Also in System Profiler under FireWire Bus, I should see something, right just like when I connect an external drive, it will show the device. With a DVCam connected to the firewire port, nothing shows up. Any other suggestion that I should try? Is there a specific Firewire driver for DVCams that I should install? cacon
The DVi link (firewire port on the webcam) is supposed to be universally supported, like USB or firewire storage devices. Mine worked out of the box, not need to install any adittional driver: Sony DCR-HC52 MiniDV. Here are the specs of my hackintosh: Intel Pentium Dual Core E2180 MB: GA-EP35-DS3L Rev 1.0 BIOS version F5 XFX Geforce 8600GT 512MB 2 GB RAM DDR2 667MHz Kingston (2*1GB) SATA HD 80GB Seagate ST380815AS SATA DVDRW LG GH20NS10 Add on Firewire and USB PCI card (VIA chipset), since the motherboard doesn't have onboard firewire port USB Keyboard USB Mouse I installed Kalyway using the weaksauce12's method, then official apple 10.5.4 leopard updates, and all of the rest official apple updates for the rest of the programs: quicktime, iLife (iMovie, iWeb, Garage band, iDVD, iPhoto), safari, etc. After updating all of them, I used iMovie to capture and convert to DVD a recording from my Sony DCR-HC52. When the camcorder is properly detected by the system, it will show "DV-Link" or something like that on the screen of the camcorder itself, and iMovie detected my camcorder properly. What version of OSX are you using and what hardware? Also, the camcorders that you have tested gave you any indication that they were plugged to the firewire port (like mine showing "DV-Link" on the screen) ?
