kRiSiS112
I've got an old age nw8240 laptop that I was sure wouldn't work with osx86, but I tried anyway. I'm able to install iAtkos and JaS 10.5.4 just fine but get stuck with the "Still waiting for root device" of death error. So, I tried Kalyway 10.5.2, which installed beautifully, and used the combo update to 10.5.4 from apple to do the rest. I killed the AppleIntelCPUPowerMangement.kext with netkas' script in Terminal and edited the script named "1" to use dsmos instead of "Don't Steal etc, etc" kext. Anyway, I still got the waiting for root device error but I read JaS saying that if you can boot install disc, you can boot mac os x, so I booted up the iAtkos 10.5.4 DVD and went to work. I fixed the permissions of files using Disk Utility and went into Terminal and deleted /System/Library/Extensions/Don't Steal Mac OS kext. I then used the DVD to remove thermal kexts and I think I also installed ToH's kernel, but I don't remember. Anyway, I got past the still waiting for root device error, and had another error where it would say "syncing disks... continuing" and rebooted. So I tried again with the "-v -x" parameters and booted into safe mode. I think this parsed the scripts that were waiting and I got the GUI and everything up in safe mode. So I rebooted and tried normal mode and it looked like it was going to work. It was loading the login window but then another error came along. I have a screenshot attached taken from my iPhone. If anyone can tell me how to get past this so I can boot, I would greatly appreciate it. I am almost there! The specs of my machine are as follows (taken from http://h18002.www1.hp.com/products/quicksp.../12140_div.HTML ) : Intel® Pentium® M processors 730 to 770* Mobile Intel 915PM Express Chipset ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5000 graphics controller with 128 MB of video memory Optional integrated 802.11 a/b/g or 802.11 b/g wireless LAN module Support for optional Intel Centrino™ mobile technology Optional integrated Bluetooth® 256-MB DDR2 SDRAM, upgradeable to 2048-MB maximum (I upgraded to 1.5 GB) 80-GB 5400 rpm, user-removable hard drive 15.4-inch wide screen display IEEE 1394 Port Integrated Secure Digital (SD) slot Security features include integrated Smart Card Reader and optional Trusted Platform Module (TPM) Embedded Security Chip NetXtreme Gigabit PCI Express Ethernet Controller Dual pointing devices Support for ultra-slim MultiBay II devices [EDIT]: I've got 2 more photos that may shed more light since they aren't so blurry. My iPhone won't capture the whole screen so these caps cut off a bit of the left side. Let me know if you needs more screencaps. Katherine
Hi I am also trying to install Mac on my NW8240. However, I can not even install well. My Version is ToH 10.5.2. Do you think that version is ok or not? Thankx KR I've got an old age nw8240 laptop that I was sure wouldn't work with osx86, but I tried anyway.
