AntmanV
I have been pouring over the forum here for days. Jumping back and forth between Newegg.com and 10.5.2 HCL Wiki trying to find a motherboard that will suit my needs and more importantly my budget. Every time I think I find one, it doesn't match up in the Wiki or it does and I get mixed info about wether or not it will work. I have settled on the E7200 processor and I plan on reusing my ram pc5300. I have 4 Sata HD's and a single IDE DVD burner. I would like firewire but I can always buy an add-on card if the board does not support it natively. I would really like 4 dimm slots for expandability. I am trying to select a board that will work out of the box for sata and ide as well as lan. I don't mind modifying audio kexts as long as atleast analog output works. My wife is ready to divorce me over this I really need the help of the people here who know. I would love to get a BadAxe2 or even a real mac, but that is not in the budget right now. I greatly appreciate any recommendations. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121871-help-me-select-a-motherboard/ Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
One of the many Gigabyte P35 motherboards is recommended, or even cheaper, the GA-P35-DS3L, or even cheaper + still works perfectly, the G31M-S2L Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121871-help-me-select-a-motherboard/#findComment-862470 Share on other sites
AntmanV
What about the GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L. Will this work for IDE? Some Wiki posts state IDE is non functional? Is there any other boards then Gigabyte? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121871-help-me-select-a-motherboard/#findComment-862805 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
IDE will definitely work with that motherboard. It says it does in the Wiki, and many people have it running just fine with IDE optical drives. You need a kext to use all the SATA ports though, but once you install it, they work fine too. If you want a board that works with everything out of the box, I recommend the G31M-S2L. It's a very nice motherboard! Of course, there are lots of brands other than Gigabyte that work! Asus, Intel, DFI, Foxconn, MSI, etc etc. Just check the wiki! AntmanV
the confusing part is many of the boards on the wiki are no longer offered on newegg.com, and those that are have slightly different model number as is the case with much of the Gigabyte GA-35 line which is now EP instead of just P. I think I am just going to go for the simple DG31 board from intel atleast I know it will work and and get a ram upgrade Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121871-help-me-select-a-motherboard/#findComment-863337 Share on other sites
Synaesthesia
Ah Intel - Yeah, it works, beautifully. BTW don't worry about the P-EP thing, not really an issue.
