Hey gang, I'm looking into parts for my very first Hacintosh.

The primary use of this computer will be 3D applications (Maya, Zbrush) and video compositing/editing.

Here is what I have speced out so far.

1x Asus P5k Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Mobo

2x Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 1G 25-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 (crossfire ready)

1x Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Kentsfield 2.66ghz LGA 775 95W

1x Corsair Dominator 4gb (2x2gb) 240pin DDR2 1066 PC28500

1x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 750gb SATA 32mb cache

How do these parts look?

I intend to dual boot btw.

Also, could anyone suggest compatible other parts to help flush this thing out?

Oops, didn't see the crossfire there! No, crossfire doesn't work. However single cards like the 3870x2 and 9800GX2 work apparently. I recommend getting a single 3870 though, as there is no speed gain with the 3870x2 in Mac OS X. The 3870 is also the fastest graphics card for OS X at the moment, well it's just about tied with the 9800GTX+.

For windows gaming the 9800GTX+ is of course faster, but for OS X 3d work, the 3870 is the card to get!

would you get the 3870x2 then since i'll need to be doing alot of work in win. Or would two 3870s work better (for windows) and let the 2nd card "dangle" when running OSX or will it cause conflicts?

Unfortunately i often have to work in windows but i prefer to live in OSX.

Thanks for your help

Nope, not yet, unfortunately. Those would be total speed demons!

The 9800GTX+ is the fastest single card that works in OS X right now. However, in Core Image, the 3870 is practicallly the fastest, as it has the best OS X drivers.

So nVidia 9800GTX+ is slightly better for Windows Gaming. (and a kick-ass OS X card)

And ATI 3870 is the fastest OS X card.
