For those of you having trouble with Skype and the application unexpectedly quitting, I believe I have found the problem (at least for my configuration).

Here was the symptom I was seeing:

- Skype 2.7.0.330 on OSX 10.5.4

- Firewire camcorder as video source

- no headset/mic attached

- on voice or video calls placed or received, skype unexpectedly quit, text chats worked fine

Upon further investigation, I can get it to work by plugging in a USB headset - then everything works correctly.

It appears that if you have NO AUDIO INPUT DEVICE (under system profiler), Skype doesn't properly handle that condition and quits with no error message.

In one of my updates, I must have lost my HD audio inputs, and the firewire camcorder mic doesn't operate as an audio input according to system profiler

Anyways, I hope this is of help to others - it would have saved me a day of uninstalling / reinstalling / screwing around with fixes that didn't work.

Cheers,

I had a problem with Skype 2.7.0.333... It constantly quit on launch on my user account.

I've tried to create another user account, Skype ran just fine there.

After two hours of Greek-style wrestling, following various Google tuts, I ended up by AppZapping Skype 2.7 and installing older 2.6 version that works just fine.

Hope this help someone..

Damn i tried both and they didn't work... The first one because the Compaq C700 mic-headphones jacks don't work, and the second one threw the same error as 2.7, and 2.8b. The version i tried was 2.6.0.137.

BTW I'm on a vanilla 10.5.7
