Kris
Hey there! I've been trying hard to install MacOS X 10.4.5 on my Toshiba Portégé M400, but always end up with the same result: A kernel panic that tells me "Local APIC error". Strangely enough, that doesn't always happen at the same time at boot, but always in the first few seconds (never even got to the blue booting screen). The M400 has a Core Duo T2400 CPU, an Intel 945GM chipset and a GMA950 GPU. What I've tried so far: - Both myzar's DVD and the newer one ("Universal Install" or whatever the "official" name is) - Every prepatched kernel that I could find on these disks - Switching every BIOS setting that has anything to do with the chipset/cpu - All the boot args I could think of, including verbose mode, single user mode, platform=X86PC, ... The result is always the same kernel panic. Windows XP and Linux seem to run fine. I'd be more than glad to hear your ideas... carpao
Toshiba Portege M400 news Following an indication from some part of the forum (I don't remember where) I succeded at least in using it in VMWARE... I downloaded the 10.4.6 WMware image (but It is ok also to boot the DVD... I checked it (but don't installed yet) and previously I had always a problem just after the initial part of the boot ... something like stack problem... kernel panic... The trick is to change in the settings of VMWare the "Guest Operating System" from other... to "Windows NT" Now it boot in WMware... a first step... I hope that this is usefuel to someone other Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/12167-kernel-panic-local-apic-error-when-trying-to-boot-from-cd/#findComment-194356 Share on other sites
